I like calligraphy and painting since I was a child. I started from practicing calligraphy and copying ancient paintings, and later learned sketching and watercolor painting, laying the foundation for Chinese painting. He studied flower-and-bird painting under Mr. Li Lingyun, a famous painter from China Painting and Calligraphy Research Institute, focusing on freehand peony and ink peony. He studied freehand brushwork landscape painting from famous painters such as Liu, Huang Zhengxiang. In recent years, I have gone deep into secluded places, visited historical sites, explored the essence of the times, and collected a large number of sketching materials. At the same time, I visited places of interest in Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan and Huangshan, felt the nature, learned the flavor of the mountains and rivers of the motherland, and accumulated more materials for Chinese painting creation.
He collected many years' works in 1990s and devoted himself to the research of Chinese painting creation. In the spirit of "making the past serve the present, making foreign things serve China, bringing forth the old and bringing forth the new", grasp the pulse of the times. In the application of pen and ink and color, we stick to the traditional pen and ink basis, integrate some scientific techniques of western painting realism, and create works with unique style and appeal to both refined and popular tastes through artistic processing of "external nature". Representative works include: New Road, Red Leaves in Xiangshan, Chun Xue, Flying Dragon, Beautiful Jiangshan, Ink Peony, etc. Over the past ten years, more than 50 works have participated in national, provincial and ministerial painting and calligraphy exhibitions. Among them, he won the third prize in the "Pen and Ink Beijing" exhibition, the Excellence Award in the exhibition celebrating the return of Hong Kong and Macao to the motherland and the 50th anniversary of the founding of People's Republic of China (PRC), and the Creation Award in the China Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition of the International Year of the Elderly. Some of his works have been published in more than a dozen newspapers such as Party Construction, China Building Materials Newspaper and Beijing Daily. Painting theory and poems on paintings are compiled into Selected Works of Sang Yu Series, Works of Teachers and Students, Poems and Songs of Youyan. Biographies and representative works have been included in China Dictionary of Contemporary Old Painters and Calligraphers (and awarded Certificate of Contemporary Old Painters and Calligraphers in China), China Dictionary of Experts, Flower of the Nation-Collection of Famous Artists of China, China Exhibition of Famous Artists of Painting and Calligraphy (Century Collection Edition), Grand Ceremony of Famous Artists of China in the Century, Centennial Classic-Complete Works of China Fine Arts, and Famous Artists of Chinese and Korean Painting and Calligraphy.
