How is the leaf carving made?

Leaf carving, as its name implies, is carving on leaves. Carving leaves should combine the shape of leaves with the carved works, and the carving should be timely and appropriate. According to the degree of dryness and wetness of the leaves, different methods should be used for color measurement and oiling.

The process of making leaf carving works is very complicated. The selected leaves have to go through more than 60 processes, such as rolling, pruning, hammering, soaking, carving, polishing, ironing and bleaching. It takes three to four months to make leaf carvings for viewing and collection by painting, micro-carving, paper-cutting, calligraphy and seal cutting.

This elaborate leaf carving is as thin as a cicada's wing, with natural color, acid and alkali resistance, moisture resistance, yellow leaves but not brittle, continuous bending, silky feel and no mildew in collection.
