How to choose a flowerpot?

The nature and volume of potted flowers and trees have a great influence on the growth of flowers and trees, so it is very important to choose flowerpots reasonably. The ideal flowerpot should have the following conditions: light material and convenient handling; Durable, not easy to break; Color, shape, thickness and size can meet the needs of flowers and trees growth, and there must be a variety of specifications and models; Low price, etc. According to the different materials of flowerpots, they can be divided into the following categories:

(1) Vegetarian-fired pottery pots are generally better than porcelain pots for flower cultivation. Tile basin is not only economical and practical, but also has ideal air permeability and water permeability because there are many fine holes in the basin wall, which is beneficial to the decomposition of fertilizer in the basin soil and the respiration and growth of plant roots. Disadvantages are monotonous color, unsightly shape, rough surface, few specifications and easy to break.

(2) teapot Yixing teapot is exquisite and beautiful in shape, with weak ventilation and water permeability. It is also an ideal choice for cultivating flowers and trees, especially cultivating orchids or stumps bonsai, which can greatly improve its ornamental effect. There are many specifications such as square, circle, rectangle, ellipse, polygon, disk, boat and barrel. There are feet under the basin to facilitate drainage and increase the sense of space in the basin. There are various patterns, paintings and calligraphy on the basin wall, which adds aesthetic feeling. The basin is rich in colors, such as beige, ochre, gray purple and so on. Because of its high price, heavy weight and easy to break, it is generally only used for planting precious flowers and trees such as camellia, rhododendron, orchid and stump.

(3) The plastic basin is light in weight, convenient to use, not easy to break, durable, and smooth inside and outside the basin wall, which is not only easy to knock against the soil when changing the basin, but also convenient for cleaning and disinfection. However, it is impermeable to air and water, and is suitable for planting flowers and trees with strong resistance to water and humidity, such as Eclipta prostrata, Phyllostachys pubescens, calla lily, Guangdong Evergreen, or relatively humid flowers and trees, such as ferns, chlorophytum, Commelina communis, winter corals, night lilacs, etc.

(4) The porcelain pot and glazed pot are planted with flowers and trees, and the outer wall of the pot is painted with colored glaze, which is airtight and impermeable. The wet and dry conditions of flowerpots are difficult to grasp, especially in winter, because flowers and trees often die because of too much watering. So it is not suitable for planting flowers and trees. Because of its beautiful appearance and diverse shapes, porcelain pots can generally be used as a set of pots for placing flowers and trees.

(5) In the north, big flowers and trees are planted in wooden barrels instead of vats. Lighter than value-added tax, it is not easy to break, but it is not available in the market and can only be customized. Usually, cypress and Chinese fir are used as materials for making buckets and basins.

The pots of bonsai are usually Yixing purple sand pots, followed by glaze pots, porcelain pots and stone pots. When selecting, the shape, size and color of the pot should be coordinated with the cultivated plants. Usually, the bonsai with straight stems, two stems and more stems in one tree should use rectangular or oval pots, and the cliff type is roughly round or square and deep cylindrical. Flower and fruit bonsai should use colored glaze pots. Red and purple flowers and fruits should be matched with white, light yellow and sky blue glaze pots; Black glazed pots should be selected for white and yellow flowers and fruits. Rock bonsai is a shallow bonsai made of light-colored stones, which is more primitive. The size of flowerpot should be determined according to the height of flowers and trees, the size of crown width and the depth of root system. Small seedlings are planted in large pots, and the soil moisture in the pots is not easy to seep out, resulting in difficulty in breathing at the roots and easy to rot and die. The nutrition of small pots and large seedlings is insufficient, and the soil in pots is easy to dry, which affects the development of roots and is not conducive to growth. General seedlings 1 ~ 2 years old, and the height of seedlings is below 10 cm, use pots with a diameter of 7 ~ 9 cm; 3 ~ 4-year-old seedlings, about 20 cm high, use pots with a diameter of 14 ~ 16 cm; For seedlings over 5 years old, if the height of the seedlings is about 40 cm, use large pots with a diameter of more than 20 cm. Flowers and trees with deep roots, such as peony, honeysuckle, etc., choose deep pots with the ratio of pot diameter to pot height above 1∶2.
