Introduction to Wangjiang Tower Park

Wangjiang Tower Park is located in a bamboo forest on the south bank of Jinjiang River outside the east gate of Chengdu. It is home to the Wangjiang Tower ancient building complex and the famous female poet Xue Tao of the Tang Dynasty. Memorial halls, various rare bamboos and other cultural relics can be visited. Xue Tao has loved bamboo all his life and praised bamboo for its "modestness, self-cultivation" and "extraordinary vitality". In order to commemorate Xue Tao, later generations planted various excellent bamboos in the garden, which brought together more than 200 kinds of bamboos at home and abroad. Many of them are valuable and are known as the "Bamboo Park".

The main buildings in the park include Chongli Tower (Wangjiang Tower), Mengjin Tower, Huanjian Pavilion, Wuyunxian Pavilion, Liubei Pool, Quanxiang Elysées, etc. It was built in the Ming and Qing Dynasties to commemorate the female poet Xue Tao of the Tang Dynasty, and was turned into a park during the Republic of China.

Chongli

Chongli Tower, commonly known as "Wangjiang Tower", is the main building in the park, 39 meters high and has four floors. It was built in the 15th year of Guangxu's reign in the Qing Dynasty. Its name is taken from the word "Chongli" written in "Ode to the Capital of Shu" by Zuo Si, a writer of the Jin Dynasty. Because it stands on the bank of Jinjiang River, it is called "Wangjiang Tower" among the people. There is also Wenquxing on the upper floor.

Jinzhuo Tower, located on the west side of Chongli Tower, has two floors and three rooms, and is slightly boat-shaped. Because the brocade weavers in Chengdu during the Han Dynasty often put the woven brocade into the Jinjiang River for washing, the Jinjiang River was also called a river, hence the name of the building. The building displays mahogany furniture and ancient architectural components from the Ming and Qing dynasties.

Poetic and Picturesque

The Poetry Tower, located on the east side of Chongli Tower, was built on the basis of the Poetry Tower built by Xue Tao in his later years. The three-story open-roofed building is nestled in the bamboo shadows of the willows on the riverside, which is quite poetic and picturesque.

In Wuxian Pavilion, Xue Tao's poems are engraved on the wooden boards and written in various fonts by famous calligraphers. Huanjian Pavilion is a Chinese-style building with a unique and exquisite shape. The museum displays the papermaking craftsmanship and stationery making art of the Tang Dynasty. The clear room with wooden lattice windows is simple and plain. It displays the statues of Chen Ju and Xue Tao from Guiyang in the Qing Dynasty. The Qing Dynasty scholars wrote inscriptions for Wangjiang Tower and Xue Tao.

The Xue Tao Memorial Hall displays Xue Tao’s life experiences, poems and other relevant historical materials. The statue of Xue Tao is 3 meters high and carved from white marble. It is located next to the memorial hall and deep in the reading garden. In addition, there is also the tomb of Xue Tao in the park, with the words "Tomb of Xue Hongdu, female school secretary of the Tang Dynasty" engraved on the tombstone.
