In the early Qing Dynasty, due to the love and admiration of Emperor Kangxi, the calligraphy atmosphere was basically influenced by Dong Qichang. At that time, many people wrote running scripts, saying that "Kang Yong only imitates incense" (in Kang Youwei's language). At the same time, some calligraphers are also devoted to the creation and exploration of official script, but there are relatively few seal writers, mainly Wang Shu, Huang Shu 'ao and so on. Their seal scripts are generally based on Xu Xuan's copy of Yi Mountain Monument in Qin Dynasty in Song Dynasty and Li's Three Graves and Gan Gua in Tang Dynasty, and they often deliberately imitate their statutes.
