What is a script? What's so special about it?

Ancient books are divided into original editions, reprinted editions, written editions, and colored editions. In the collection of ancient books, there is a saying that among ancient books of the same period, "the engraving is better than the printed version, the first engraving is better than the re-engraving, the color combination is better than the single color, and the pictures are better than the text." ?Among them, the original engraving is the first choice for collectors. There are many reprinted copies, and their collection value is slightly lower than the original copies. However, there are several types of reprints that collectors should pay attention to: First, the original reprints are no longer available, or only fragments of them exist. Second, the reprinter is a famous book engraving institution in history. The third is the photocopying, which is to first make a photocopy on the original copy, and then engrave it on the plate, so that the printed book can completely retain the shape of the original copy. The fourth is the written version, which is a book written and printed by a person who is good at calligraphy or the author himself, such as "Banqiao Collection" written by Zheng Banqiao in the Qing Dynasty. ?There is also a color-blocked edition, which means text and pictures in different colors are printed on the same page. The value is often several times higher than that of ink copies of the same period, and it has always been a hot spot in the collecting world. ?The so-called written version is a version that is written and printed by someone who is good at calligraphy. Since such engravings are mostly made by famous calligraphers and are in very small quantities, they are rare treasures in ancient book collections. The fine engraving editions of the Qing Dynasty began during the Kangxi period and flourished during the Qianjia period. Many fine works appeared during this period. Most of the palace books at that time, including those engraved by Yangzhou Bookstore, were handwritten and printed. Under its influence, private engraving also developed the trend of precise writing on the upper plate. At that time, many works were carefully written and published by famous artists. For example, Lin Ji, a famous calligrapher in the Houguan Dynasty, once handwritten "Yao Feng Wen Chao" written by Wang Wan, "Shiting Wen Bian" written by Chen Tingjing, "Gu Fu Yu Ting Manuscript" and "Yu Yang Essence Record" written by Wang Shizhen, and was praised by the literary world and Bibliophiles call it "Lin's Four Writings." According to the "General History of Chinese Printing", Huang Sheng's engravings during the Qianlong period are also very famous and can be described as exquisite workmanship. The fonts of this book are beautiful, the writing is powerful, the printing is extremely precise, and the paper and ink formats are also elegant and pleasing to the eye. Every page is a beautiful work of calligraphy art. ?Writing an engraving is extremely labor-intensive and financial. Some people estimate that writing an engraving requires six to seven times more labor than imitating a Song-style engraving. Therefore, printing, printing and engraving are generally not something carvers dare to care about. It requires strong financial support.
