Trace the source
There are three main sources of Chu surnames: one is to take place names as surnames. There was Chu in the Zhou Dynasty, so the local residents took Chu as their surname. The second is to take the official position as the surname. According to legend, in the Spring and Autumn Period, there was an official in Song Dynasty, Wei Dynasty, Zheng Dynasty and other countries called Chu Shi, who was in charge of the city's fair trade. Later, the descendants of those who held these official positions took the official position as their surname, and then simplified it to the single surname Chu. The third is from other ethnic groups. Today, both Yi and Lisu have Chu surnames.
