Xue Nai Fan Zhai is Mo Youzhi’s vegetarian name.
Mo Youzhi (1811~1871), whose courtesy name was Zisi, also known as Heting, also known as Ziquan and Suisou, was a native of Dushan, Guizhou. He was an epigrapher, bibliographer, calligrapher and important member of the Song Poetry School in the late Qing Dynasty. His family legacy was passed down from generation to generation, and he was proficient in the study of text and exegesis. Together with Zheng Zhen of Zunyi, he was known as the "Giant Confucian of the Southwest".
Mo Youzhi was born in a scholarly family. His father, Moyu Chou (also known as Youren), came to Zunyi with his parents in the third year of Daoguang reign of the Qing Dynasty (1823). He studied with Li Tao from Beach Beach as his teacher, and he studied with classmates Zheng Zhen and Li Zhaoxun. Daoguang selected scholars in the sixth year and promoted people in the eleventh year. He once served as a scholar of the Hanlin Academy, magistrate of Yanyuan County in Sichuan and professor of Zunyi Prefecture in Guizhou. He is the author of "Er Nan Jin Shuo", "The Rhymes of Renbenshishi", "Mr. Zhending's Collection" and other books.
