The story of Li Zhi and Wu Meiniang

According to legend, in March of the fifth year of Tang Yonghui, Tang Gaozong Li Zhi came to Jiucheng Palace for the summer, which was the first time that Li Zhi came to Jiucheng Palace for the summer after he proclaimed himself emperor. At that time, Li Zhi was full of ambition and high spirits, because he wanted to take back the long-awaited Wu Zetian from a nun. Li Zhi was afraid of taking Wu Zetian back to Chang 'an harem, and it was inconvenient to see Wu Zetian from time to time. He ordered Wu Zetian to be sent to the ninety percent palace in Linyou in advance to settle down. Li Zhi is about to get his wish, so in this pink and green, beautiful spring March, he took his concubines and many civil and military ministers and came to Jiucheng Palace.

Because, after all, it is a summer vacation away from the palace, and there are not too many complicated etiquette and rules, Li Zhi took the mountain climbing as an excuse to show Wu Zetian the wonders here. On this day, Li Zhi took Wu Zetian to visit the mountain opposite the palace. After he let the left and right sides avoid it, he climbed up with Wu Zetian. Halfway up the hill, there happened to be a pavilion where Li Zhi and Wu Zetian went to rest. Sitting in the pavilion, you can have a panoramic view of the magnificent Summer Palace and the strange mountains and waters around it. Wu Zetian, who snuggled up to Li Zhi, had a soft voice and sweated slightly, and her flushed and smooth skin exuded fragrance.

Seeing this, Li Zhi was elated and poetic. He called everywhere, waited on him with pen and ink, and wrote an inscription on what he saw, heard and deeply felt during his few days in Jiucheng Palace. Wu Zetian also studied hard, and she was deeply impressed by the emperor's literary talent and Feilong's calligraphy. Wu Zetian was forced to talk to Li Zhi because she was the favorite woman of the first emperor Li Shimin, but she looked down on Li Zhi from the bottom of her heart and thought that Li Zhi only knew how to put on airs, but this time she changed Wu Zetian's view on Li Zhi. Li Zhi is not only charming, but also brilliant. Wu Zetian praised the inscription.

Li Zhi has never won the favor of Wu Zetian since she took her back. Unexpectedly, an inscription won the admiration of a beautiful woman. Li Zhi was very happy and said, "With so many concubines, no one can appreciate my poems. Only you know my mind best, and I'll make you queen at once! " Wu Zetian was of course happy, but she said, "Your Majesty, I dare not. I was really wrong to go back to the palace this time. It's really wrong to have fun with the emperor. It is unforgivable to dare to steal the queen's throne. My servant doesn't value position and honor. As long as you and I love each other, my country is peaceful. "

Li Zhi was very appreciative of Wu Zetian's remarks and saw her cleverness and open-mindedness. She said, "Wuniang, you are not only the cleverest of all concubines, but also the most talented one."

From then on, Li Zhi attached great importance to Wu Zetian, so that he later asked Wu Zetian for instructions on everything and even handed over military affairs to Wu Zetian, which led to the history of Wu Zetian's usurpation.

Li Zhi embraced the beautiful and intelligent Wu Zetian, admiring the beautiful scenery in front of him, and casually intoned, "Thousands of forests form shadows, only people pair up ..." Wu Zetian suddenly said, "Hey, Emperor, why don't you rename this pavilion Xie Yingge as a witness of the eternal unity of male and female servants and the emperor?" The emperor repeatedly said, good, good! Since then, this pavilion has been renamed Xieying Pavilion.

Li Zhi also got the appreciation of Wu Zetian and other civil servants because of this inscription, so he ordered people to carve this inscription into a stone tablet and change Jiucheng Palace into Wannian Palace as a memorial. Up to now, this monument inscribed by Li Zhi has stood on the site of Jiuchenggong, which has become an eternal story.
