Where is Dadukou Eco-tourism Zone?

Dadukou Eco-tourism Zone is located at the northern end of Caimushan Nature Reserve, at the southern edge of Hunshandake Sandy Land, more than 50 kilometers away from the county seat. It is the junction of typical grassland, meadow grassland and sandy land, and it is also the transition zone from grassland to forest. There are 350,000 mu of natural forests growing here. The center of the scenic spot is Dadukou tourist area, with continuous sandy land in the north, grassland in the south, snake skin river and natural forest stretching for tens of kilometers from east to west. The unique terrain and diverse vegetation provide natural conditions for the seasonal habitat and reproduction of various wild animals.

Shepi River: According to historical records, Luanhe River was called Suishui in ancient times. During the Northern Wei Dynasty, Li Daoyuan called Duolun the "Luanyuan", which means the birthplace of Luanhe River. Where is the starting point and conservation place of this abundant water source? From the satellite remote sensing photos, we can see that there is a green river on the yellow sand in the northeast of Duolun, just like a green "dragon" swimming in the yellow sand. On the surface, it is an undulating sandy land, but in fact it is a winding river-Shepi River, which is one of the important tributaries in the upper reaches of Luanhe River, and Dadukou is one of the important areas for water conservation and water quality protection.

Underground forest: It is about 25 kilometers long in a deep ditch formed by cutting down the Shepi River. From the ground, it is undulating sand dunes, while the valley is densely covered with forests and the river bottom is trickling. The dense green forest belts on both sides of the river extend from east to west, which is the "underground forest" snake skin river commonly known by Duolun. In the underground forest, there are trees, shrubs and vines. Alternately clustered, all kinds of colorful wildflowers are dotted among them, butterflies are flying, birds are singing and flowers are fragrant, streams are gurgling, and all kinds of wild animals live in them. In late autumn, wild fruits such as Prunus armeniaca, Prunus humilis and Prunus armeniaca are covered with branches. The underground forest of Shepihe River is an extremely rare green belt in the long sandy land. It is also a rare green landscape where sand and water, sand and plants, animals and plants live in harmony, and it is an eco-tourism resort that needs to be developed and utilized urgently.

Dadukou is dominated by mixed forests of Populus davidiana and Betula platyphylla, supplemented by shrubs and trees, with a coverage rate of 13.6%. Forests have played a great role in regulating microclimate, conserving water and soil. In addition, this natural forest is also rich in a large number of nutritious natural wild fruits such as apricot, hazelnut, autumn pear, hawthorn, seabuckthorn and Prunus humilis. It is also home to deer, roe deer, antelope, wolves, rabbits, squirrels and other animals, pheasants, geese, eagles, pheasants, bustards, cranes, swans, larks and many other birds.

Songkeng: On both sides of Dadukou, there is a place commonly known as Dongxi Songkeng. According to legend, a large pine forest grew here in ancient times, and then a mountain fire burned it out. Because these two deep pits are full of mountains and rivers, there are more than 200 trees left. There is also a saying that migratory birds have played a role. The scenery here attracts migratory birds who have traveled long distances to rest here. When drinking water, they spread seeds from far away through feces, forming a small pine forest.

According to experts' research, the existing pine tree is "Picea mongolica", which belongs to the national rare tree species and is called a living fossil. It provides a solid specimen for studying the geological changes and biological evolution in Duolun County.

Around Songkeng, the scenery is unique. Hundreds of sandy spruces are self-contained and clearly defined from the surrounding environment. Looking from the grassland, there is no trace. Climbing the peak, there is a vast and dark pine forest at your feet. While bringing you surprises, you have to sigh the magic of ancient nature.
