Zhang, Qiu Jun, Hai Rui and Wang Tongxiang are also called the four great talents in Hainan, and they are the "unique books" in Hainan's four unique poems (Qiu Jun is the "unique writing", Hai Rui is the "unique loyalty" and Wang Tongxiang is the "unique poetry").
In his life, he wrote 10 Collection of Regular Poems, 4 Poems of the Tang Dynasty, 1 Journey to the North of the Canal, 1 Record of Trainers and 1 Curious Stories of Gongda. Especially after he resigned from his post and returned to his hometown in 1838, he presided over the compilation of 44 volumes of Qiongzhou County Records. These works are kept in Zhongshan Library, Guangdong Province.
In addition, Zhang is particularly good at calligraphy and painting, and is a famous painter in Qing Dynasty. He was listed as one of the four great calligraphers in Guangdong in the Sketch of Painting in the Dynasty compiled by the Qing Dynasty. Today, Ding 'an County Museum still holds many of Zhang's calligraphy works, while Guangdong Provincial Archives only holds one landscape painting.
In order to spread knowledge and inspire people with lofty ideals, Zhang gave lectures in Hainan Qiongtai Academy, Yanfeng Academy, Guangzhou Yuexiu Academy and Zhaoqing Academy.
