1, Introduction to the Works
This poem is written in the third year after Li Yu's return to Song Dynasty, revealing his undisguised thoughts about his motherland. The whole word begins with asking questions, ends with answering questions, ends with asking questions, and ends with asking yourself and answering questions. Through the intense tone of sadness and the free and tortuous artistic structure, the author's melancholy runs through and forms a refreshing aesthetic effect. It is said that this sentence is also one of the reasons that prompted Song Taizong to order the poisoning of Li Yu, and it is Li Yu's desperate words.

Southern Tang Dynasty: Li Yu
When is the moon in spring and autumn? How much do you know about the past? The small building was easterly again last night, and the old country could not bear to look back on the moon.
Carved fences and jade bricks should still exist, but Zhu Yan changed them. How much sadness can you have? Like a river flowing eastward.
3. Translation
When will the year end? Think of a lot of things in the past! The east wind of spring blew from the small building last night, and I couldn't bear to look back and miss my old country in the moonlight. The finely carved railings and jade steps should still be there, but the ladies-in-waiting are old. Ask me how much sadness I can have. Like a river flowing eastward.
