Cunningly crossing the Jinsha River
The skillful crossing of the Jinsha River was a successful example of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army's Long March in May 1935.
The Jinsha River is located in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. It runs through the deep mountains and narrow valleys on the border of Sichuan and Yunnan. The river surface is wide and the water is fast and the waves are strong. If the Red Army cannot get through, it will be pushed into the deep mountains and narrow valleys by the Kuomintang army, and is in danger of annihilation of the entire army. When the Red Army brigade advanced towards the Jinsha River, Chiang Kai-shek woke up from a dream and determined that the Red Army's destination was neither Guiyang nor Kunming, but "must cross the Jinsha River without a doubt."
On April 28, 1935, Chiang Kai-shek issued an order to control the ferry, destroy the ships, and seal the river. Just before the Red Army arrived at the Jinsha River, the enemies on the riverside had plundered all the ships to the north bank. [1] From May 3 to 9, 1935, the Red Army avoided the enemy's edge. With only 7 ferries, more than 20,000 Red Army troops crossed the Jinsha River for 7 days and 7 nights.[2]

The battle process
On May 3, 1935, comrades from the Cadre Corps of the Military Commission accepted the task of seizing Kyaopingdu. Without saying a word, they traveled 180 miles over mountains and ridges, and arrived at the Jinsha River that night. At the ferry, they were lucky enough to find two boats. It turns out that these two ships were sent to the south bank for spies to investigate the situation. I don’t know where the spies went.......

Then they quietly crossed to the north bank in these two boats. The enemy's sentry thought the spies were back and paid no attention. They launched a surprise attack, wiping out a company of regular troops and a security team in one fell swoop, and took control of both sides of the Jiaopingdu ferry. Later, they found five more boats and mobilized 36 sailors.
At the same time, the First Red Army Corps rushed to Longjie Ferry, and the Third Red Army Corps rushed to Hongmen Ferry. However, there were no ships at these two ferries, and the river was wide and the water was too tight to build a bridge. The Military Commission ordered them to quickly move to Jiaoping to cross the river. [4]

Battle results
From May 3, 1935 to On the 9th, in seven days and seven nights, the main force of the Red Army relied on these seven small boats to cross the river calmly. After crossing the Wujiang River in the south, the 9th Army Corps, which served as the rear guard, was ordered by the Military Commission to circle around, sometimes south and sometimes north, and contained part of the enemy's forces. On May 6, 1935, they arrived between Dongchuan and Qiaojia County in Yunnan, and crossed the Jinsha River on May 9, 1935. Two days later, the enemy's pursuers arrived at the south bank. But the Red Army had already destroyed the ships and sealed the rivers, and left without a trace, which showed the wit and bravery of the soldiers. [5]
