Historical evolution of bird writing

Bird books began to appear in the middle of the Spring and Autumn Period, and prevailed from the late Spring and Autumn Period to the middle of the Warring States Period. The most outstanding contribution of Chu people in calligraphy art is the first bird book. Bird book is also called bird print. The earliest known bird book is found in the Bird Book written by Sun Wang of Chu and Wu Wang in the middle and late Spring and Autumn Period.

Chu ancestors regarded the phoenix as a totem, so they had special feelings for it. Chu people's special respect and love for birds far exceeds that of other nationalities. The more complicated bird book is similar to the phoenix pattern on the Chu vessel, and the simpler one is similar to the deformed phoenix pattern on the Chu vessel. To some extent, it may be more appropriate to call the bird book Phoenix Book, but people's names have been agreed.
