Su Shi's Main Calligraphy Works

Su Shi, a famous Dongpo layman, was born in Luancheng, Hebei Province, during the Northern Song Dynasty.

He is one of the "Eight Masters in Tang and Song Dynasties", the main representative of the wild school, and one of the "Song Sijia".

These four calligraphy works by Su Shi are worth seeing.

1. Jiang Shang Tie, also known as Encounter Tie, is the last work of Su Shi's calligraphy, which was written three months before his death, that is, April 28th. This post is a letter from Uncle Su and Du's old friend, saying that after eight years, the old friend reunited on the river, and he was "deeply disappointed". His books, as Wu Zhengzhong said in the Postscript of Song Dynasty, are "full of vigor and pride".

"Post on the River" has a strong artistic appeal because of its bold pen, rich pen and ink, delicate writing and natural harmony. But the handwriting of this post is shaking from time to time, which is the state of his old illness, which adds to its emotional impact and charm.

2. Su Shi's "Yangmei Hou Feng Post" was a work of Su Shi when he was young. Both of them were written in the fourth year of Jiayou (1059), that is, the year when Su Shi lived in his mother's funeral, when Su Shi was 22 years old. "Yangmei Hou Feng Tie" is a cursive script with smooth brushwork, delicate font and refreshing brushwork.

3. One of Su Shi's calligraphy works, Zhi Ping Tie, was written by Su Shi in his thirties and belongs to letters. Its main content is to introduce the matter of entrusting a village monk to look after the grave. This calligraphy work is exquisite in brushwork and charming in font, which is a rare masterpiece in Su Shi's calligraphy works.

Every word in Zhi Ping Tie is very delicate, and the lines are romantic and beautiful. This calligraphy work shows Su Shi's calligraphy style and characteristics incisively and vividly, which makes people memorable.

4. Su Shi's middle-aged masterpiece Huangzhou Cold Food Post, two poems written by Su Shi when he was demoted to Huangzhou because of Wutai Poetry Case in Yuanfeng five years. His poems are gloomy, desolate and broad-minded, and the color of pen and ink in calligraphy also changes with the context of the poems, falling rocks are ups and downs, and the momentum is extraordinary, reaching a perfect state of writing in one go.

Because of this, Huangzhou Cold Food Sticker is called "the third running script in the world", which is the best of Su Shi's calligraphy works and has a great influence in the history of calligraphy.

Su Shi, his calligraphy is not tacky at all.
