What country was Nanjing during the Warring States Period?

In the early Warring States period, it belonged to the State of Yue, and in the middle and late period, the State of Yue was destroyed. It belonged to the ancient land of Wu in Nanjing, the State of Chu, and was located in the Yangzhou region of Kyushu. Legend has it that Fu Cha, the king of Wu, built a smelting city here in 495.

in the first 472 years, the king of yue, Gou Jian, destroyed Wu, and fan Li built a city crossing the south bank of Qinhuai river outside the present Chinese gate, which is the beginning of the history of Nanjing city wall. In the first 333 years, Xiong Shang, Chu Weiwang, was destroyed by Vietnam, and Jin Lingyi was built in Shitou Mountain (now Qingliang Mountain).

31 years ago, Nanjing was the fief of the Western Zhou Dynasty. In 571 BC, the State of Chu had set up Tangyi in Liuhe today, which was the earliest place in Nanjing with historical records and the beginning of the construction of Nanjing. By 218, it had been 2589 years.

at the end of the spring and autumn period, Fu Cha, the king of Wu, built a smelting city in the present Tiangong area and opened a handicraft workshop for smelting and casting bronze wares. In 473 BC, after the destruction of Wu by the State of Yue, Fan Li built the city of Yue in the long trunk outside the present Zhonghua Gate. In 333 BC, Xiong Shang, Chu Weiwang built Jinling Town in Stone Town, from which the name of Jinling originated.

Extended information

Stone Town is about 3, meters long and was built in Chu Weiwang for seven years (the first 333 years). In the 16th year of Jian 'an in the Eastern Han Dynasty (211), Sun Quan of the State of Wu moved to Moling (now Nanjing). In the second year, he built a city in the original site of Jinling City in Stone Mountain and named it Stone. Defending the Yangtze River is a battleground for military strategists, and it is known as Shicheng Tiger.

At the foot of Qingliang Mountain in Nanjing, from the stone gate in Longpanli, Hujuguan to Caochangmen, you can see the winding city walls and towering stone cliffs. This is the stone city built on the mountain.

Tongzhi's Records of Shangjiang Counties: "Since Jiangbei, there have been no stones in the mountains, hence the name." "Jiankangzhi" also said: "There is a city on the mountain, also known as Shicheng Mountain." The "city" mentioned here is also the stone city.

The origin of Stone Town can be traced back to the Warring States Period more than two thousand years ago. According to historical records, in the thirty-sixth year of King Xian of Zhou (333 BC), the State of Chu (the capital of Ying, now Jiangling, Hubei Province) destroyed the state of Yue, and Chu Weiwang set up Jinling City, and built a city on this Qingliang Mountain. In the twenty-fourth year of Qin Shihuang (223 BC), the State of Chu perished, and the Qin Dynasty changed Jinling into Moling County.

According to legend, in the Three Kingdoms period, Zhuge Liang sent an envoy to Dongwu on the eve of Battle of Red Cliffs, and discussed with Sun Quan to break Cao's plan. It is said that Zhuge Liang rode to Shitou Mountain to observe the situation of mountains and rivers when passing through Moling County.

He saw the mountains headed by Zhongshan winding in the southeast like black dragon, while the mountains in the west ending in Stone Mountain stood on the banks of the great river like tigers, so he gave the admiration that "the mountains in Zhongshan are long and the stones are surrounded by tigers, which is really the residence of emperors" and suggested to Sun Quan to move the capital to Moling.
