Brief introduction of moonlight pavilion in lotus pond

Moonlight on the Lotus Pond is an essay written by Zhu Ziqing, a famous writer in China, when he was teaching in Tsinghua University. It is widely known for being included in middle school Chinese textbooks. This article was written in July 1927, and Chiang Kai-shek betrayed the revolution on April 12. Zhu Ziqing, a patriotic intellectual who once participated in the May 4th Movement, was filled with indignation and dissatisfaction in the face of this dark reality, and fell into the anguish and hesitation that he could not understand the reality. With this lonely and depressed mood, he strolled in the northwest corner of the lotus pond near the Spring Garden in Tsinghua Campus late at night and wrote the article "Moonlight on the Lotus Pond". 1982, in order to commemorate the masterpiece Moonlight on the Lotus Pond written by Mr. Zhu Ziqing here, Tsinghua University built a pavilion on Dongshan Mountain near Chunyuan Garden, and named it "Moonlight Pavilion on the Lotus Pond". After the pavilion was completed, the Tsinghua University School Office entrusted Professor Jin Denian to inscribe it. After several days' hard work, Professor Jin wrote several plaques of Moonlight in the Lotus Pond, but he always felt dissatisfied, which could not match the personality, knowledge and realm of the master, and could not be integrated with the charming scenery and intoxicating artistic conception of Moonlight in the Lotus Pond. Finally, he decided to consult Mr. Zhu Ziqing's handwriting through the school history museum. Many things happen. Finally, four small characters "lotus", "pool", "moon" and "color" were found in Zhu's rare manuscripts in different periods. After nearly a month's hard work, Professor Jin finally succeeded in writing through the analysis of the four words "Lotus", "Pond", "Moon" and "Color", which made people see the four black and gold characters of "Moonlight on the Lotus Pond" written by Mr. Zhu in one go, beautiful, straight and powerful.

Professor Jin Denian is currently the president of Tsinghua University Calligraphy Association and the deputy curator of Longhu Art Museum in Mei Qing, Beijing. Jinchunyuan used to be the former residence of Emperor Xianfeng in Qing Dynasty. Its predecessor was the center of Xichun Park in Kangxi, surrounded by the lotus pond. In the tenth year of Xianfeng (1860), the British and French allied forces invaded Beijing and burned the Yuanmingyuan. The Spring Garden was severely damaged, and it was partially completely demolished during the Tongzhi period, making it a "desert island" for more than 20 years. 1927 In the midsummer, Professor Zhu Ziqing, who lives nearby, feels that the world is changing and can't sleep at night. He went out for a walk in this area in the dead of night. With his ingenious ideas and flowers, he wrote a famous work, Moonlight on the Lotus Pond, which added new cultural characteristics to this ancient site.

After 1979, after several years of efforts, Tsinghua University has transformed this "desert island" into a scenic spot with rich historical and cultural characteristics. Besides "Han Pavilion" and "Wuhan Statue", there are rockeries, waterfalls, lawns and fish ponds. The "Linyi Pavilion" built near the water is based on the original building of the same name in the park. This is the only symbolic restoration of the old things according to the French style of the Qing palace, with a hill to rest and a gold thread.

1982, in order to commemorate the masterpiece Moonlight on the Lotus Pond written by Mr. Zhu Ziqing here, a pavilion named "Moonlight Pavilion on the Lotus Pond" was built on Dongshan Mountain near Chunyuan Garden.
