Zhangzhao Yueyang Tower Screen
The plaque of Yueyang Tower on the world-famous Yueyang Tower was inscribed by Zhang Zhao. Speaking of this screen, there is also a legendary story. In the early years of Qing Qianlong, Yuezhou Prefecture of Hunan Province carried out large-scale maintenance of Yueyang Tower. Due to the age, the screens carved by calligrapher Su Shunqin and sculptor Shao Mao have lost their luster. When Huang Ningdao, the magistrate of Yuezhou, was worried, he heard that Zhang Zhao, the minister of punishments, had returned to Beijing from his hometown of Songjiang Province, and immediately escorted the grain and grass westward as an imperial envoy, passing through Yuezhou Prefecture, and could not help secretly rejoicing that Zhang Zhao's calligraphy was magnificent and extraordinary, and he was really the first calligrapher in our dynasty. Wouldn't it be a beautiful thing to ask him to remake Yueyang Tower? The next day, Zhang Zhao came to Yuezhou with food and grass, but on this day, a strong wind suddenly blew and the rain poured down, making it impossible to sail on Dongting Lake for a while. Therefore, Huang Zhifu took the opportunity to make a dinner for Zhang Zhao, drank wine on Yueyang Tower, wrote poems, and deliberately lamented: "This building was rebuilt, but no one remembers!" This "challenge method" really worked, and Zhang Zhao generously agreed to be a ghost. Here, the county magistrate Huang Zao was ready and immediately sent him to Four Treasures of the Study's study. On the spur of the moment, Zhang Zhao waved his hand, and the pen was like a dragon playing in the water, and the tiger crossed the mountain, and an article "Yueyang Tower" was swept away. Huang Zhifu immediately selected famous craftsmen, selected twelve pieces of fine rosewood and carved them day and night. In less than a month, I carved this beautiful literary character. The dazzling new carved screen is embedded in the building, which suddenly adds a lot of color to Yueyang Tower. I don't want a corrupt official Wei Zhifu to come to Yuezhou during the Daoguang period. This person has long coveted the carved screen of Yueyang Tower written by Zhang Zhao. In order to keep the treasure of this town building for himself, Wei Zhifu hired a master of folk art carving at a large sum of money, and spent a year and a half copying it carefully, secretly copying fake carved screens and attempting to steal columns. After knowing Wei Zhifu's intention, the artist deliberately tampered with the word "ju" in order to let future generations distinguish between true and false, and wrote a very short one that looked like a sharp dagger. Moreover, the word "ju" in the fake carved screen is very close to the word "heart" in the right line, which makes future generations associate Wei Zhifu with "bad intentions". Soon, Wei Zhifu secretly switched the bag when he was transferred from Yuezhou, hung the fake in the lobby of Yueyang Tower, and fled overnight with Xiao Jia and Zhang Zhao's original carved screen. Unexpectedly, when the official ship went to Dongting Lake, there was a sudden storm and huge waves. The official ship was instantly overturned by the wind and waves. Wei Zhifu, who fell into the water, clung to the carved screen and tried to escape. Unexpectedly, the carved screen was made of solid rosewood and fell into the water and sank. As a result, Wei Zhifu and Ceping sank to the bottom of the lake together. Later, the lake dried up and became shallow, and the carved screen was salvaged by local fishermen. At this time, the word "Song Mutual" on the eighth screen and the word "Le" on the tenth screen have been accidentally damaged. After hearing the news, local celebrity Wu bought the engraved screen from the fishermen with 120 silver, and it took another three years to copy a handwritten manuscript to make up for the broken three words. When Yueyang Tower was rebuilt after the Northern Expedition, Wu's descendants generously donated carved screens that had been treasured for many years. The precious screen engraved on this photo was finally returned intact to Zhao and Yueyang Tower.
