Introduction to He Zhizhang:
He Zhizhang (AD 659-744), courtesy name Jizhen, called himself Siming Kuangke in his later years, and lived in Yongxing, Yuezhou (now Xiaoshan City, Zhejiang Province) in the Tang Dynasty He was famous for his poetry when he was young. He was a poet in the early Tang Dynasty and a famous calligrapher. Empress Wu of the Tang Dynasty (Wu Zetian) won the first prize in Yiweike in the first year of Zhengsheng (695), and was awarded the Doctorate of Four Gates of Guozi and moved to Doctorate of Taichang. Later, he served successively as Minister of Rites, Secretary and Supervisor, and Guest of the Crown Prince. He Zhizhang was an open-minded and uninhibited person, and was known as a "lovely talker". He was particularly indulgent in his later years, calling himself "Si Ming Kuang Ke" and "Secretary and Supervisor". In the third year of Tianbao (744), He Zhizhang retired and returned to his hometown. He later died in his hometown at the age of 86. He Zhizhang's poems are famous for their quatrains. In addition to the music for worshiping gods and the poems made according to the needs of the gods, his poems describing scenes and expressing feelings are unique in style, fresh and unrestrained. His famous two poems "Ode to the Willows" and "Returning to the Hometown" are very popular and have been passed down through the ages.
