I live in a hometown of calligraphy and painting, where my love for calligraphy and painting has lasted for thousands of years. Influenced by this environment, with admiration and apprehension for calligraphy and painting, I entered the calligraphy and painting training class.
On the first day of class, the teacher asked me to practice strokes. Slowly, I eventually moved into copying, memorizing, and creating. In just one year, my calligraphy skills have improved a lot. What made my calligraphy improve so quickly?
I remember when I first learned strokes, I was practicing my strokes while watching others write couplets. The teacher seemed to see what I was thinking and encouraged me to try writing a couplet first. I really wanted to try it, but I had never practiced it, and I felt nervous and excited at the same time. In the end, in this complicated mood, I wrote the first couplet: "Throughout the ages, the country is new, and the times of the past are as good as the present." Looking at it from a distance, it is instantly beautiful. This was the first time I applied what I learned, and it made me deeply fall in love with the art of calligraphy.
After a winter vacation practice, just before the Spring Festival, the teacher decided to organize us to write couplets in the county cultural square to show off our learning results and increase our confidence. When we heard the news, we were all very happy. We no longer had the uneasiness of the past. We spent the whole night looking forward to tomorrow. We were so excited that we couldn't sleep. We repeatedly checked the pens and ink, inkstones, rulers, etc. for tomorrow's writing.
The next day, we arrived at the County Cultural Square early. It was cold and there were very few people. We were too cold to write and the ink froze. The teacher still asked us to prepare the paper ourselves. It was approaching noon, and the number of people gradually increased. Under the sunshine, we began to write. An aunt came over, looked at my writing and asked me how many years I have been studying calligraphy. When she learned that the training had only started in the last semester, the aunt was surprised and praised me for my efficiency in writing and writing very well. Hearing their encouragement, my confidence doubled, my handwriting became more and more beautiful, more and more people watched my writing, and several elderly people bought some of my couplets. Faced with their affirmation of my calligraphy works, I strengthened my determination to learn calligraphy and painting, and my desire to learn slowly turned into my desire to love learning and persist in writing.
I wrote a lot that day. At night, my mother was afraid that I would be too tired to write the couplets, which would affect my enthusiasm for studying, so she took pictures and sent them to friends to air them out. Unexpectedly, many people wanted them. I know it’s not about how well I write, but it’s about them encouraging me to keep going.
Yes, calligraphy cannot be achieved overnight. It requires the accumulation of time, the accumulation of years, the integration of Chinese studies, and the test of experts.
As the new year gets stronger, my father hopes that I will not waste my studies during this time when I return to my hometown. He went to our hometown town to practice for a day. The folks here looked at the words written by my pen. Be cheerful, smile, and convey praise and pride. Although I stood for a whole day, I didn't feel tired.
I love calligraphy, and I hope that through unremitting efforts, I can gradually follow the footsteps of those predecessors of calligraphy, so that my handwriting can at least overflow with the charm of their inscriptions. With a longing and sincere heart, I will go on firmly!
