There are six types of brushwork. They are center forward, side forward, reverse forward, drag forward, broken forward, and flying forward. Chinese calligraphy and painting are mainly expressed by lines, and the tools used are sharp brushes. To make the line stipples of calligraphy and painting rich in variety, you must first pay attention to how to hold the brush. When using the brush, you must master the weight, speed, deviation, straightness and other methods, which is called "brushwork" .
1. Center: The center, that is, the tapered tip of the brush, is always at the center of the pen during the operation of the brush. The central use of the brush is the primary feature of the Chinese painting method. Its characteristics are: full writing power and rich connotation. Soft on the outside and strong on the inside, extremely expressive.
2. Side sharpening: As the name suggests, side sharpening means tilting the brush so that the center of the tip of the brush is tilted to the side. Its characteristics are: the pen is rich in changes, has strong pen tension, and is refreshing and refreshing. The disadvantage is that it is thinner and more superficial than the center pen. However, flanking is one of the most common methods in figure painting, and it also reflects the aesthetic needs of another state of mind.
3. Backhand: Backhand is a method of running the brush in the opposite direction relative to the forward direction of the forehand position. The resistance of writing against the front increases, the strokes converge and disperse, and the change in tightness is different from the meaning of smooth strokes. The purpose is to pursue changes in the use of the pen. The characteristic is that the pen is rigid and penetrates the back of the paper, but lacks softness. Do not use it frequently, only in moderation.
4. Dragging: Towing is to put the brush on the paper and drag it. The characteristic is that the conversion is natural and the speed is consistent. Under the requirement of accurate form finding in figure drawing, dragging the front is easier to achieve than other methods, and the method is practical and simple. The disadvantage is that the pen is relatively floating and does not have the feeling of penetrating through the back of the paper.
5. Broken hairpin strands and roof leak marks: The brushing method pursued based on phenomena and traces in nature is a variation of Zhongfeng's brushwork, thus enriching the performance of Zhongfeng's brushwork.
6. Fei Baifeng: This brushwork is derived from the Fei Baifeng used in calligraphy. The characteristic is that the brush is loose and hairy, which looks like a dragonfly touching the water, but in fact it is strong and masculine, with inner strength, loose and spiritual, and has a feeling of vastness.
