on October 19th, 27, the selection of works of the 9th National Calligraphy and Seal Cutting Exhibition was announced in Zhongshan City, Guangdong Province. * * * 35 works won the prize, and a regular script work by Shi Feng, a famous calligrapher from Hechi, won the third prize. This is the first time that Guangxi calligraphy works won the prize since the National Calligraphy and Seal Cutting Exhibition was held for 26 years.

The National Exhibition of Calligraphy and Seal Cutting Works (hereinafter referred to as "National Exhibition") is the highest-level comprehensive exhibition in China's calligraphy circle, and is known as the "Olympics" in the calligraphy circle. It has been successfully held for eight times before and has a strong brand appeal in the literary and art circles. According to reports, this year's national exhibition * * * received more than 58, submissions from authors, the largest ever, and the competition was extremely fierce. One of Shi Feng's regular script works won the favor of the judges with its fresh style, flying spirits and heroic bones and muscles, and stood out among many works and won the third prize.

Shi Feng is currently the president and editor-in-chief of Hechi Daily. He joined the China Calligraphers Association in 1994 and was elected as the vice chairman of Guangxi Calligraphers Association in 1999. cheers for breaking the "zero" in Guangxi

—— A record of Shi Feng, the winner of the 9th national calligraphy seal cutting exhibition

■ Wei Keyi

At the just-concluded 9th national calligraphy seal cutting exhibition, a regular script work by Shi Feng, a calligrapher in our region, won the third prize, achieving a zero breakthrough in Guangxi calligraphy works in the "National Exhibition" award.

It is understood that the number of contributions for this year's "National Exhibition" reached a record high, and * * * received 55,274 contributions, which made the competition extremely fierce. The jury consists of 55 experts, divided into six judging groups: regular script, cursive script, official script, seal script, seal cutting and national exhibition forum. * * * 35 works were awarded prizes, including 5 first prizes, 1 second prizes and 2 third prizes. Judging from the number of contributions and the quality of works, this national exhibition reflects the basic features of contemporary calligraphy creation. Guangxi Book Association attaches great importance to the 9th National Exhibition. At the end of July this year, shortly after the new team of the Book Association was elected, from August 17th to 21st, the Guangxi Book Association and the Propaganda Department of Liuzhou Municipal Committee jointly organized the "9th National Exhibition Punching Class", and invited authoritative experts to give lectures and comment on the works for more than 7 students. Shi Feng and other leaders of the Calligraphy Association and a group of powerful calligraphers took the lead in preparing for the war and devoted themselves to their creation, which set off a strong atmosphere of welcoming the "National Exhibition" in Guangxi calligraphy circles.

there are 963 works submitted by Guangxi, ranking 2th among all provinces and cities. Although the number of works is small, it won a third prize, another two were nominated and four were selected for the exhibition, which can be described as fruitful.

For the cultural and artistic circles in Guangxi, the significance of this award is also extraordinary. Although the mass base of calligraphy in Guangxi is extensive, it is relatively weak, with many people who can write and few people who practice calligraphy. Over the years, although many works in Guangxi have been selected and won prizes in book fairs, and even a number of young calligraphers once occupied nearly half of the prize-winning share in the fifth national young and middle-aged calligraphy and seal cutting exhibition, which triggered a heated discussion on the "Guangxi phenomenon", there was no outstanding achievement in the national exhibition before, and it was still in a backward state compared with the achievements made in literature, music, art and other cultural categories. Shi Feng's award has contributed a lot to the overall improvement of Guangxi's cultural and artistic level.

Since the early 199s, when Shi Feng first submitted his manuscript and was selected for the first national exhibition of new calligraphers sponsored by the China Book Association, it has been out of control. He has won more than ten awards in national calligraphy exhibitions with national influence, such as national exhibition, China Youth Exhibition, new calligraphers exhibition, Lanting Award, Stars Award, Fan Exhibition, etc., and has become a leading figure in Guangxi's calligraphy circles, thus winning the "Bronze Drum Award" from Guangxi's government award for literary and artistic creation. It is no accident that he won the prize in this national exhibition. It is another high-quality reward for his devoted calligraphy and natural development.

Looking at his creative achievements for more than ten years, we can clearly see that Shi Feng has always adhered to the path of being good at learning from the ancients and paying attention to innovation in inheritance. When he first learned calligraphy, he started from Tang Kai, and then focused on cursive script, and gradually formed his own style based on Mi Fei and Erwang. In the past ten years, he has dabbled extensively in Kai, seal, official script and seal cutting, constantly expanding the scope of calligraphy research, persisting in Linchi, constantly absorbing nutrients from tradition, innovating techniques, and continuously improving his creative level. When creating for the Ninth National Exhibition, he established the guiding ideology of "neither copying the ancients nor repeating the modern people", focusing on Chu Suiliang's style, weakening some obvious characteristics of his brushwork and adding some brushwork of Ou Yangxun and Zhang Jizhi. In his creative notes, he revealed the formation of the style and temperament of his works and his innovative skills: "... the smell of chives sticking in his works is the casual expression of the accumulation of past stickers in his writing. Because of the large number of words, the font size is deliberately dealt with in a larger contrast. Ink color does not pursue shades of dry and wet levels, but hopes to create a deep space through the change of pen weight. In terms of the details of the knot, the density of the space and the shape of the long flat Fiona Fang are required to be as varied as possible without being too exaggerated. " Facts have proved that his creative approach has been recognized by the judges and experts.

Shi Feng studies books, especially reading. Everywhere he goes on business trip, he likes to visit bookstores in his spare time, and most of his luggage at home is heavy books. He studies, literature, art, history and philosophy ... with a wide range of interests. He believes that reading can be reasonable, eye-opening, knowledge-increasing, and generate a keen response to things; It can change the author's temperament and get rid of kitsch. Temperament is the first important thing to learn calligraphy. The author is elegant in temperament, naturally broad-minded, noble in moral character, unmoved by fame and fortune, and has ideals and opinions. When he writes, he has charm, spirit and bookish spirit. But when it comes to calligraphy learning, he doesn't simply blindly follow others' scholarly formulation, but pays attention to analyzing the relationship between erudition and specialized learning and studying the path and experience of predecessors' success. For traditional learning, Shi Feng advocates a lot of temporary study and systematic research with the attitude of "erudite, interrogative, thoughtful, discerning and faithful". When reading posts, he not only pays attention to rational analysis, but also emphasizes subjective feelings. In the temporary study, he summarized, compared and analyzed the famous works of past dynasties in a technical way, and practiced in an "expert" mode to achieve technical absorption. He put the pros and cons of each pen and ink and the style evolution of various fonts and glyphs into the political and cultural forms at that time to conduct a comprehensive study, so as to deepen the understanding and grasp of historical classics. When these elements are applied to the creation, we can better achieve the purpose of accepting and releasing, not exceeding the moment and seeing the temperament, and lay a solid foundation for "innovation". Regarding the discussion of "expert" learning methods, Shi Feng specially wrote a paper entitled "Looking at the Transformation of Contemporary Calligraphers from the Basis of Calligraphy Development" for discussion.

In the study of calligraphy, he pays attention to the word "Tou", not only absorbing other people's comments, but also trying to explore new discoveries and form his own views. For example, for seal script, many people think that seal script is not interesting and monotonous except for a little decoration. By studying Wen Tao, bronze inscriptions, brick inscriptions, bamboo slips and silk scripts, he saw their varied features and came to the conclusion that "seal script is not short of interest, but of discovery, induction and arrangement". When others chose to give up because of the "conclusion", he found the real treasure in his research and read the spell of "open sesame" first. Solid research efforts have enabled Shi Feng to see farther and walk more steadily on the road of creation.

Shi Feng is currently the president, editor-in-chief and party secretary of Hechi Daily. He joined the China Calligraphers Association in 1994 and has been re-elected as the vice chairman of Guangxi Calligraphers Association since 1999.
