19 17 joined the army and became a general. He is in charge of exploring and inspecting the terrain in the army, so the majestic Qianshan Mountain in China is deeply rooted in his mind. 1924, Yu Chengyao returned to China and became an instructor. In the early days of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, he was promoted to Lieutenant General, responsible for supervising the war zone.
1946 applied for retirement with the rank of lieutenant general in the Military Senate of the National Government, and was allowed to start the medicinal materials business until 1968. After retiring from the army, Yu Chengyao amused himself by reading, writing poems, listening to Nanguan and watching exhibitions on weekdays.
1949, he came to Taiwan Province Province to visit Laopaoze. Unexpectedly, the country split and Yu Chengyao stayed in Taiwan Province Province for forty years. During the forty years of living alone, Yu Chengyao devoted himself to Nanguan culture. At the age of 56, he began his painting life of "painting a water in ten days and a stone in five days".
1956 or so, he began to recall and pointed out the "mountains and rivers in his chest" with his own "messy pen".
From 65438 to 0966, Yu's works attracted the attention of Li, an art historian living in the United States, and recommended him to participate in the "New Tradition of China Landscape Painting" roving exhibition held in the United States.
Four Screens of Mountains and Rivers, written around 1969, is a masterpiece of his mature style. The landscape structure in the painting is complex and magnificent. 1970 s, Yu Chengyao's creation was still dominated by ink and wash, and his pen was more free and bold;
In the1980s, he began to paint with watercolor pigments. In addition to the early use of turquoise, he gradually added primary colors such as yellow, blue and red to make the picture bright and vivid.
