Xia Jingshan, a Buddhist monk, is a Chinese-American, a famous patriotic overseas Chinese, and a well-known Buddhist artist who believes in Tan Yue and Buddhist painting at home and abroad.
Xia Jingshan was born in Weifang, Shandong Province in 1923. At the age of 16, he studied Danqing under Mr. Guo Weiqu, and later visited famous teachers to study painting techniques such as flowers, figures, ladies and landscapes. He was painstaking and inspired, and his skills became more and more proficient. At the age of 28, he took Master Nanting as a teacher, converted to Buddhism, and made a vow to dedicate his body and mind to the Buddha, to do his duty in the dust brake, to practice Bodhisattva, and to do his best for the cause of Buddhism. Since then, he has devoted himself to Buddhism, widely practiced Bodhisattva, and followed the high-ranking monk Dade at home and abroad to study the occult teaching method for more than 5 years. The nectar of Buddhism not only opened up his wisdom, but also made his Buddhist painting art reach the realm of transcendence, purity and solemnity.
In p>1971, Buddhist Xia Jingshan moved from Taiwan Province Province to California, USA, and entered the Academy of Fine Arts for further study. At the same time, he visited the world's major museums to study and copy, and devoted himself to the art of Buddhist painting. After decades, his ideas became more ingenious, his techniques became more exquisite and his skills became more profound. The paintings and statues of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas in ancient kilns, temple walls and scriptures in China in the past dynasties can make people who are destined to pay tribute to us today feel the compassion and wisdom of the Buddha from the heart, and even feel the power of the Buddha. It is difficult to use the word "art" to explain the feelings and feelings that Buddhist paintings give people like the buddhas and bodhisattvas before the present. If the usual artistic ingenuity is only to convey the artist's creative enthusiasm and personal unique spiritual realm, then the excellent Buddhist painting art just abandons these mundane artistic conceptions. If the literati painting focuses on the word "meaning" and the literati painting focuses on the word "emotion", then the Buddhist painting focuses on the word "purity". The realm of "purity" in Buddhism is full of truth, goodness and beauty, which accords with the vast compassion and boundless merits of all buddhas and bodhisattvas, so people can experience special purity and solemnity from Buddhist painting art.
Buddhism emphasizes faith, practice, faith, will, action, precept, determination and wisdom. Painting Buddha statues also stresses etiquette and pays attention to inheritance. People who paint Buddha statues should not only follow the rituals, but also immerse themselves in the respect for the perfect virtue of the saints, and use their whole lives to understand and accept the realm of Buddha and Bodhisattva. In these Buddhist paintings and statues, a pen shows the right knowledge and right view; Layer by layer, the condensation is the top-down admiration. Therefore, painting Buddha statues is practice, and appreciating and visualizing these Buddha statues is also practice. Drawing Buddha dharmas with the artist's pure heart and respecting the hearts of all beings with the Buddha dharmas can make people put themselves down and achieve purification.
The Buddhist painting art of Xiajingshan Buddhist can be said to embody the wisdom and compassion of Buddha and Bodhisattva in a harmonious way. He integrated his deep and true understanding of Buddhism into every work, and used the techniques of freehand brushwork in Chinese painting, delicate meticulous painting and perspective and realism in western painting to draw every pure and solemn Buddhist painting with reverence. His paintings of Buddha statues are as good as the law, with both form and spirit, clean Dojo and solemn law, which not only won the joy and admiration of Buddhist believers, but also won the praise and encouragement of many artists at home and abroad.
In p>1994, Xia Jingshan, a Buddhist monk, returned to China and lived in Miyun, a suburb of Beijing. He founded the Buddhist Painting Academy and taught many students. His intention was to make the Buddhist painting art in China inherit and carry forward for a long time through words and deeds. It's amazing to be kind and willing.
Xiajingshan lay people will have a far-reaching impact on carrying forward the excellent traditional culture of the Chinese nation, inspiring the national spirit, carrying forward Buddhism and benefiting all beings.
