Mr. Guo Yuheng is a famous literary historian in China. He is diligent in learning and has a wide range of research. He has made outstanding achievements and profound insights in the study of the history of ancient Chinese literature, especially the history of prose. He has also made remarkable achievements in China's modern literature, especially in the study of Lu Xun. The most prominent feature of his scholarship is that he can integrate "old learning" with "new learning", which not only has a deep foundation of "old learning", but also has a new theoretical accomplishment in contemporary times. Under the guidance of Mr. Guo and Mr. Chen Yuan, he attached great importance to the textual research of documents. Whenever it comes to the works of ancient writers, he will try his best to consult the first-hand information comprehensively to ensure that the arguments are well founded. Later, he accepted new theories such as historical materialist dialectics, which can explain historical materials in depth. Not empty talk, but also clear views. From the1940s, we began to study the ancient prose represented by the Warring States Policy. After the 1960s, he co-edited Selected Proses of China in Past Dynasties with Mr. Sui, and published a series of papers, such as A Brief Discussion on the Prose Tradition of China and Two Features of China Prose, to reveal the traditions and characteristics of ancient prose. He also published articles such as "Spiritual Emancipation and the Change of Articles", discussed the regularity of the development of China's prose, and studied the works of a large number of ancient writers. On this basis, he spent more than ten years writing a three-volume History of China Prose with 654.38+05,000 words, which is the first comprehensive history of ancient prose independently completed by individuals in China. Its profound style, clear-cut views, meticulous thinking, informative materials and beautiful writing have reached an unprecedented level, filling the gap in the study of ancient prose and winning the China in 2002. Mr. Zhong Jingwen praised it as "prose has a history, and it is the first to create a monarch".

In the long-term literary research practice, Mr. Guo has formed his own academic research style and academic thought. He emphasized that the study of literary history should have historical knowledge and cannot be written as "a long compilation of literary history materials"; The compilation of literary history should proceed from a historical perspective, pay attention to discipline norms, pay attention to the context and laws of the development and changes of various styles, and cannot be written as "works criticism" or "works appreciation"; He advocated that the study of China's prose history should proceed from the reality of China's articles, not from the definition of "Introduction to Literature", thus establishing the research scope of ancient prose realistically; He paid attention to the combination of historical research and literary research, the description of literary phenomena and the construction of theoretical system, especially the influence of the politics of the times and the prosperous times of emperors on the development of literature, and repeatedly emphasized Liu Xie's simple and profound literary view, such as "literary change affects the world, and prosperity and waste depend on time sequence" These academic thoughts and research styles have exerted a wide influence in the field of ancient literature research.

Mr. Guo Yuheng has been engaged in teaching for more than 60 years, and he has tirelessly encouraged and educated the people of Hong Wen. He is strict with his students, patient and caring. He is good at transforming scientific research achievements into teaching achievements, which is convincing and has outstanding teaching effects in the classroom. All the students who have listened to his teaching will be impressed by his rigor. From 65438-0978, Mr. Guo enrolled master students for the first time, which was also the first graduate student after the reform and opening up, and then recruited many times. He not only taught by example during school, but also continued to support and organize them to participate in various projects edited by himself after graduation, further cultivating their research ability in practical work, making them quickly become academic backbones and have a greater impact in their respective research fields. The motto of "Enlighten Education, Blend the Past with the Present" inscribed by Mr. Guo for the College of Liberal Arts has become the action direction of all teachers and students in the College of Liberal Arts. In a word, Mr. Guo Yuheng has made indelible contributions to the education of ancient Chinese literature and even the all-round cultivation of students.

Mr. Guo Yuheng is honest, strict with himself and lenient with others. All his life, he pursued light and adhered to justice. Geng Jie was indomitable and principled. He works hard, selfless dedication, loyalty to others, and enthusiasm for helping others; He is modest and prudent, approachable, indifferent to fame and fortune, and lives a simple life. Anyone who has been to Mr. Guo's house and found him in a room with only 10 square meters filled with books and has been insisting on the research site for decades is moved. However, he always maintained an optimistic mood, regardless of personal gains and losses. Mr. Guo also has high attainments in calligraphy and poetry. His calligraphy style is thin, tough and firm, and his poems are rigorous and elegant, just like a person. Mr. Guo is also a model of filial piety, serving his parents for a long time, respecting his wife equally and loving his children and grandchildren. In a word, his profound knowledge and lofty personality are truly worthy of "learning to be an official", so he is deeply loved and admired by teachers and students.
