Li Guofang’s social commentary

Calligraphy is based on words. It depends on words but cannot be bound by words. It can work within the rules and outside the circle with ease. Mr. Li Guofang is such a master of calligraphy who is sailing in the sea of ??art. He is well-read and knowledgeable, and is knowledgeable about the past and present. Say a few lines of ancient poetry to him, and he will immediately be able to tell the source. The ancients said: "If you draw back a mountain of pens, it will not be enough. Only by reading thousands of volumes can you gain enlightenment." Mr. Li's calligraphy has a strong bookish style.

Mr. Li was born in a scholarly family in 1925, and three generations of his family have been engaged in education. He loved calligraphy since he was a child. He copied Ouyang Xun's "Jiucheng Palace Liquan Inscription" and Wang Xizhi's "Lanting Preface" for many years. He also adopted Ouyang Xun's Thirty-six Methods of Knotting, and gradually formed his own style.

Mr. Li is optimistic, open-minded, and humorous, so his writing style is bright and open. Looking at his calligraphy, it is like flowing clouds and flowing water, elegant and green, with deep and solid brushwork, penetrating the hair with strength, like the lightness of floating clouds, and containing the shape of a frightening dragon. Horizontally, it is like a cloud formation thousands of miles away, and vertically, it is like a hundred-year-old withered vine. It is eloquent, vivid, well-proportioned, and the overall beauty is very strong and amazing!

His running script "Lanting Preface" won the first prize of the national "91 Double Ninth Festival Piston Cup" and was exhibited at the Beijing Military Museum.
