The details of how to teach English well
As the most popular foreign language today, English is valued and liked by more and more people. As a rural junior high school English teacher, I also know the importance of English, and English is also a required subject in the high school entrance examination, accounting for a very large proportion. But teaching and learning English is easy to say but difficult to do, and even harder to do well. Let’s briefly talk about some details of English teaching over the years.
1. Pay attention to the cultivation of daily study habits
Only when students’ study habits are well developed can students’ abilities be improved. The same teaching tasks can be completed faster and more efficiently. Just went up. So how to improve students' study habits? I think it should be cultivated from the following three aspects:
1. The habit of speaking and reading.
As a second language, when students come into contact with it, they are initially blank. Therefore, teachers must teach students accurate pronunciation. Let students first master the pronunciation of words, and then read aloud repeatedly to become proficient in reading. First read slowly, then read quickly, and then read it into sentences. In this way, students' own ears will slow down. Soon you will get used to this word, and it will not be unfamiliar when you do listening in the future. In our class, what I fear most is "dumb English", because most of the students come from rural areas, are introverted, shy, and have a reluctance to actively participate. The only way to eliminate this mentality is to seriously train students' speaking and reading skills. habits. In addition, extensive and accurate reading can promote the further improvement of listening and speaking, and extensive reading can fully improve reading and writing levels.
2. Listening habits
As a language, if students want to speak, they must first be able to listen. I pay great attention to the cultivation of students' listening. This listening not only refers to listening to tapes, but also includes the teacher's pronunciation during class, the students' pronunciation, the dialogue between the teacher and the students, the dialogue between the students, and even your own pronunciation. You must also pay attention to it. To capture, ponder, and then chew carefully to understand the differences, so as to constantly correct your pronunciation. At the same time, I often recommend some English songs to students after class, so that students can use their extracurricular time to study. In this learning process, students' listening and speaking abilities are also improved.
3. Writing habits
As the saying goes, a good memory is worse than a bad writing. Learning English must be based on listening and reading. However, to truly master English and form the ability to use the language comprehensively, listening and reading alone are far from enough. The mastery of English language knowledge must also be tested and promoted through speaking and writing. and the formation of application abilities. I usually pay great attention to students' writing habits in class. First of all, students are required to take good notes on some important knowledge points taught in class. I will complete the writing tasks of each unit meticulously, make full revisions, and give some constructive evaluations and comments. Sometimes , in order to correct the students' wrong sentences, I even wrote more than the students.
In addition, I also strive for perfection in writing. Some students have made a mistake in writing a letter since elementary school and brought this mistake to middle school. For example, when writing the letter D, some students first write a vertical line and then a semicircle. The letter D written in this way is very unsightly. To this end, I specifically demonstrated the writing of 26 letters in the class, arranged for students to copy English content once a day, and organized an English writing competition. After a period of time, the students' calligraphy improved significantly.
2. Pay attention to the teaching of phonetic symbols and words
For junior high school students, the English they learn is still a basic part, and phonetic symbols and words are the foundation of the foundation and must be kept in mind. If students do not master phonetic symbols and words well, everything they do will be empty talk.
However, memorizing phonetic symbols and words is very boring, and it is difficult for junior high school students to concentrate on one place for a long time. If we simply throw dozens of words to students and specify how much time it will take for me to write them down. Students will definitely be very disgusted, and the effect can be imagined.
On the contrary, if we can create a very relaxed and pleasant learning environment for students, allowing students to learn through play and memorize in games, students will easily complete the task of memorizing phonetic symbols and words.
1. Learning of phonetic symbols
Only by correctly mastering the phonetic symbols can we spell words better. As the saying goes, sharpening a knife will never make you chop wood again. Students should not be afraid to spend time learning phonetic symbols. In order to achieve better results, I racked my brains when teaching phonetic symbols. If I use the traditional teaching method, no matter what, the teacher teaches and the students follow. On the surface, it looks very lively, but some students actually learn it. However, more students become discouraged after studying for a period of time because they do not realize from the bottom of their hearts the importance of learning phonetic symbols. As the saying goes: The power of role models is infinite. I did not rush to teach phonetic symbols to the whole class. Instead, I first let a few students who liked English learn phonetic symbols. Then I held an English word memorization competition in the class. The result was , several students who learned phonetic symbols remembered many words quickly and well. It makes students who have not learned phonetic symbols envious. At this time, I explained the importance of learning phonetic symbols. After listening to it, everyone strongly requested to learn phonetic symbols. In this way, my goal is achieved, and the students' enthusiasm and initiative in learning phonetic symbols are completely aroused.
2. Memorize words
There are many ways to memorize words. The one I use most is the method of using local materials.
This memory method uses the principle of using local materials. Everything is for my own use, so I don’t have to worry about teaching aids. It is convenient and practical, very interesting to students, and it can also deepen their understanding of things. Sometimes, I pick up the students' schoolbags and say to them: "Do you know how to say the contents of this schoolbag in English?" See who can spot them? ?Then I took out the pencil case, pencil, pen, book, eraser, ruler, pencil sharpener, dictionary and notebook in turn. I took one and the students said a word?pencilcase \pencil\pen\book\eraser\ruler\ pencil\dictionary\no tbook?
Of course, I often take out the picture props I made and ask students? What?s this? The students are very interested, raising their hands and speaking enthusiastically, and the classroom atmosphere is very active. For example, in an activity we conducted last week: Be the best DIYer, during the operation, we listed a large number of real objects to repeatedly consolidate the words we learned, such as blender, shake, turn on... The memory effect of students is particularly good. Well, there was even a time when a student was memorizing words and chose the "passing unit" first. He chose this unit immediately. I asked him why, and he said: "Remember to be more familiar with the words in this unit" p>
Sometimes I also let them memorize words in the form of a competition. I remember that when I was learning vocabulary in units 8 and 9 not long ago, I learned and memorized them now, and then asked some students to represent each group to take dictation on the blackboard, in the form of a competition. There was a comparison among the students, and they all worked hard to memorize, and the results were much better than usual.
According to the law of people’s forgetfulness, I basically have to dictate the words in each unit at least three times. In this way, the students’ vocabulary can be remembered very firmly and it is basically difficult to forget.
Sometimes, after students finish learning a word, I immediately ask them to take out the "Evaluation and Test" and complete the translated word part above. There are also some questions that explain English in English. I do it with the students as a word puzzle game. The students are very active in doing it, and the impression of the word is more profound and unforgettable.
At the same time, I also require students to memorize words as a habit of their own, and it is best to memorize words anytime and anywhere. The outside world is always wonderful and colorful, including flowers, trees, birds and animals, clouds, fog, thunder and lightning, snow, rain, wind and frost, sun, moon and stars, rivers, lakes and seas, plains and hills, mountains and fields, schools, factories, buildings, parks, and docks. The airport, the constant flow of vehicles, the flow of people from south to north, and the rich and colorful folk customs can all be used by me. I let students go to nature to listen, see, smell, touch and feel.
This makes abstract and boring English words easier to remember. On campus, I saw words on the clothes of students in my class. I would always read and memorize them with them. Soon we all learned words such as "fashion fantastic". On the way to school, I sometimes walked with students, I will guide them to observe their surroundings and try to find some words they have learned to guide them in their memory. Every day, I talk to students about the date, weather, week and some seasonal factors in freetalk, so that students can learn more about and remember some English-related words or phrases.
3. Pay attention to hierarchical management and teach students in accordance with their aptitude
When memorizing words, I put forward different requirements according to the students’ abilities. For example, I initially asked students to memorize 10 words. For words, those with poor memory can just complete the teacher's requirements, and those with better memory can remember more. In order to inspire everyone's spirit of not admitting defeat, and to encourage the advanced and encourage the underachievers, I would always take the more well-written homework the next day and praise it in front of all the students. Unexpectedly, every day I would find that some students were doing well. Memorize more words and more and more students will exceed the task.
When assigning homework, I will arrange some optional questions and required questions in layers, and students can complete them in layers according to their own level.
When managing students and teaching English, I will let different students take on different tasks. For example, in the last English hands-on activity "be the best DIYer", those with strong hands-on skills were responsible for operations, those with excellent grades were responsible for organizing and explaining instructions, students with good handwriting were responsible for writing procedures on the blackboard, and other students were responsible for trivial matters such as sanitation and safety of the venue. In this way, the whole group activities are organized in an orderly manner, everyone has a clear division of labor, and the activities go smoothly.
4. Pay attention to encouragement and be good at praise
There is a student in our class named Wu Maoyu. This student is not stupid, but he is serious. He can score more than 90 or even 90 points in lame mathematics. The score is over 100, and the Chinese is not very bad. The only difference is in English. When I took over his job, the English score was only about 50. I learned from the side that he was once a few minutes late for cleaning the class last semester. He was criticized by the English teacher at the time. He had a grudge in his heart and didn't like learning English very much. So he was strict with him in normal times and often While tutoring him, I always praise and encourage him when he makes progress. After more than three months of training, he can now easily pass English.
As the saying goes, a kind word can warm the winter. Everyone loves to hear kind words and words of praise. Teachers should not be stingy at all with nice words, words of praise, and intimate gestures that are beneficial to the growth of students. A casual praise, a kind rebuke with a smile, and a warm touch may give students the joy of staying up all night, may become a catalyst for students to turn grief into strength, and may be the key to a turning point in a student's life.
In short, there are many things we should pay attention to in the process of English teaching. But I believe that as long as I try my best to do every aspect well, my teaching level will definitely be improved. ;
