Zhu Changzi was only 6 years old when his father died, and Li Zhengfei handled the political affairs of the vassal state. Zhu Changzi had good attainments in painting, music, and calligraphy, and he also knew how to make pianos. The pianos he made were called "Luqin".
On February 2, the 17th year of Chongzhen, Liu Fangliang, an invading army, captured Huaiqing Mansion (today's Qinyang). That is, heading east to Weihui, Henan Province, Prince Lu's Mansion was in danger. On February 19, Zhu Changzi decided to abandon the city and flee. First fled to Wuxi, Nanjing and then to Hangzhou. In late May of the first year of Hongguang (1645), news of Emperor Hongguang's capture reached Hangzhou, so Ma Shiying, Ruan Dacheng, Zhu Dadian, Yuan Hongxun, Zhang Bingzhen, He Lun and others discussed asking Zhu Changzi, who was in Hangzhou at the time, to supervise the country. (June 30, 1645), Empress Dowager Zou (the legitimate mother of Zhu Yousong and the Empress Dowager Kezhen Renshou) ordered Zhu Changzi to supervise the country. The decree said: "You are my uncle, and you are the virtuous leader of all the vassals. In the past, Xuan Temple marched eastward, Xiang, "Zheng supervises the country, and the ancestral constitution is still there, and it can be followed today." On the eighth day of the lunar month (July 1), he called the supervising country in Hangzhou. The next day, Huang Daozhou suggested that Zhu Changzi should ascend the throne and proclaim himself emperor within ten days, but Zhu Changzi followed Ma Shiying's advice. Chen Hongfan was sent as the representative of King Lu of the Supervisory State to negotiate peace with the Qing army. On the 11th (July 4), the Qing army approached Hangzhou. Ma Shiying, Ruan Dacheng, Zhu Dadian and others all fled for their lives, while Chen Hongfan returned to Hangzhou and Zhang Bingzhen and others persuaded King Lu to surrender. On the 14th (July 7), the city of Qing was lost. Later, he was sent to Beijing together with Zhu Yousong and other vassal kings as well as some captured officials from the Hongguang court. On April 9th ??of the following year (May 23, 1646), he and Zhu Yousong and other nine kings were killed. The crime was: "plotting against evil" (that is, plotting to support Zhu Changzi's rebellion).
