Art Evaluation by Famous Artists
Activist in the Comics Industry—Zhang Bin
Hua Junwu (formerly China Vice Chairman of the Artists Association)
Published in People's Daily's "Satire and Humor" on November 5, 1998. In December 1998, "Heilongjiang Daily" reprinted the story of "I met Zhang Bin in 1987" At that time, he was working in the political department of Harbin Flight Academy. They held a cartoon exhibition, and the political commissar and many pilots drew cartoons about real miracles. Zhang Bin was both a worker and an activist, with strong organizational skills. Later, the college published a "Military Academy Comics", and Zhang Bin was actually in charge of it.
A few years ago, Zhang Bin transferred to the Heilongjiang Daily, where he drew large-scale cartoons and became one of the most prolific cartoonists in the country. He also published a special issue of "Comics Jingwei" in the newspaper, and organized cross-strait cartoon exchanges, making cartoons more popular in the North. Get lively. I admire this kind of comic activist. During the floods this year, he drew a lot of cartoons about fighting against floods, took many photos of soldiers and civilians fighting against floods, and even got on a plane to take a bird's-eye view of Harbin. He drew a whole page of comics, including his twin children who used their New Year's money to buy band-aids to express condolences to the People's Liberation Army. I was very touched by his whole-hearted devotion. When I asked Zhang Bin, he said that this was the same thing as him. Related to passing troops.

A little Thoughts
Ding Cong (former director of the Cartoon Art Committee of the Chinese Artists Association) has known Zhang Bin since the 1980s, because his paintings were scattered in various newspapers and periodicals, and his impression was limited to a new comic book recruit. In the mid-1990s, he and his colleagues from Heilongjiang Daily came to my home for interviews, and they were only casual acquaintances. Until 1999, Zhang Bin organized a cross-strait cartoon competition, and a group of Taiwanese cartoonists and mainland cartoonists went to Harbin for exchanges, and I also went. Seeing how energetic and considerate he was before and after running, I began to have a good impression of this young man. We were in Harbin for many days, and Zhang Bin accompanied us all the way. We were all together in meetings and sightseeing, so we got to know each other better. Later, he presented me with a newly published picture album, and I found that he not only painted a lot but also painted well. Generally speaking, if you draw too much, it will be rough, but Zhang Bin is different. The more he draws, the more refined he is. This is a great characteristic of him. He not only paints well, but also has good ideas.
I have a view on the current comics. Although they are very prosperous, with comics editions in all major newspapers and periodicals, and there are many new authors, in general, the level is not very high. It seems that comics are done as long as they have a good idea (of course this is also very important), so the pictures are often not elaborate. You must know that comics are also paintings. Without an exquisite picture, it is difficult to impress readers and it is difficult to form a good painting. And Zhang Bin did a good job in this regard. As far as I know, Zhang Bin has published more than 4,000 cartoons and many collections so far. His works have won dozens of awards at the provincial level and above in China, including the first prize of the China News Award and the China Comic Golden Monkey Award. His cartoons have won many awards in international cartoon competitions held in Japan, South Korea and Turkey. Therefore, I often joke that he is an "award-winning professional". Before Zhang Bin was transferred to Guangzhou Daily, he was not a professional painter, but a senior editor of Heilongjiang Daily. He edits two illustrated magazines, "Manga Jingwei" and "Urban Comics". He is very busy at work and often sends illustrated magazines to me. At that time, he mostly drew comics in his spare time, and he made such achievements, which really makes me envious. This shows the hard work he has put into comic art.
After working in Guangzhou for more than two years, he is publishing a book again. As an old friend and an old cartoonist, I have nothing but envy. I hope he can continue on this path smoothly and achieve more brilliant achievements.

Impressions of Zhang Bin
Ying Tao (former deputy director of the Literature and Art Department of People's Daily and editor-in-chief of "Satire and Humor")

In the 1980s, Zhang Bin's comic works began to be scattered. By the 1990s, he had already The image of a prolific man stands on the top of our country's comics scene. Zhang Bin's comic works are characterized by a wide range of materials, and he is good at drawing creative themes from complex social phenomena. He is not only good at organizing things of the same category and nature into one work, but he can also skillfully integrate things of different categories and nature into one work.
This shows that the author is familiar with social life and has a strong ability to refine life materials. Reading his works, you can feel that he has a wide range of contact with life and is very familiar with the psychological activities of ordinary people. For works with the same theme, the content of Zhang Bin's works is not empty or fabricated, but has basis in life and is the reality of life. His works can be said to be an overview of social life.
Close to life and quick to respond are the advantages of Zhang Bin’s works. In terms of picture expression, the lack of obvious changes in images and the use of too many words are its shortcomings. When I was working in the editorial department of "Satire and Humor", I once forced him to work towards no words or less words. I don't deny that words can be used in paintings, but I would like to use a variety of expression techniques. What is surprising is that the comics he created with no or few words are also very exciting. Being able to master more expression techniques will undoubtedly be of great benefit to Zhang Bin himself.
When I first met Zhang Bin, he was still working in the Air Force. In the strict and tense military life, he was able to organize comrades engaged in various majors to reflect their lives in comics, and compiled and printed more than 30 issues of "Military Academy" "Cartoon" newspaper, published "Military School Cartoon Selection", which was affirmed by the army leaders, indicating that Zhang Bin had considerable organizational skills; later he switched to work for a local provincial newspaper, and quickly established a comics page to organize the compilation and distribution of comics manuscripts from various places, and was quite popular Achievements; In the process of preparing for the Yuquan Square Ping Cup Cross-Strait Communication Media Lifestyle Cartoon Competition and communicating with the Taiwanese comics industry, Zhang Bin's ability was even more demonstrated. He was able to handle an event that was difficult, complicated, and varied. It is not easy to stay organized.
Smart, productive and capable, this is Zhang Bin in my impression.

Fang Cheng (Honorary President of China News Cartoon Research Association and Senior Editor of People's Daily)
The comic published on the cover of the fourth issue of "Book House" magazine in 1999 became popular in China. It started in the early twentieth century and has been around for nearly a hundred years. But it was generally popular, and cartoonists continued to emerge from all over the place, but by the end of the 1970s, it only had a history of twenty years. There have been many cartoonists in the past two decades, but not many have outstanding performance. Among them, Zhang Bin's works are deeply impressive. Not only has he published a large number of comics, but he is also obviously artistically refined, which is clearly seen in some of his works.
He is the cartoon editor of Heilongjiang Daily. Editing work takes up a lot of energy and time. How much effort does it take to create a large number of pretty good cartoons under such semi-professional conditions? ah! His comics cover a wide range of subjects, and he also uses the form of group paintings to express and comment on many issues that people from all walks of life are concerned about.
Diligence and excellence are important conditions for the growth of an artist, which can also be seen in Zhang Bin.

Zhang Bin and his creative practice

Reform and Opening Up In the new era, like other literary and artistic categories, the comics creation field has shown an unprecedentedly active situation, especially the rise of a new generation of comics creation teams, which has brought vitality to the further prosperity and development of the comics creation industry. Among many talented young and middle-aged cartoonists, Zhang Bin’s creative achievements are eye-catching.
Zhang Bin was born in a family of intellectuals and has served as a worker, soldier, air force lieutenant colonel and art editor. His rich life experience and diligent observation and thinking spirit have attracted great attention to his comic creation. A vast world and an endless source. As the famous cartoonist Hua Junwu said: No one's artistic creation can be separated from life. Whoever observes more and deeply in life will have greater creative gains. Zhang Bin extends the roots of his comic creation to all levels of social industry, ranging from national policy decisions (such as "Beware of Unjust Reform") to street talks and family life (such as "Sanqikai", "Wenji" "Appreciation", "Twin Brothers Revelation", etc.) can elicit the beam of wisdom from it. Reading Zhang Bin's paintings, you will find the connotation of social life, humorous taste, and sharp irony. People can be inspired by the unique aesthetic enjoyment of comics. Zhang Bin once said when talking about his own creation: I feel that I can draw anything as long as I am familiar with life, and there is no need to limit myself to a creative circle, because children who are not picky eaters will grow fat. Because of this, Zhang Bin's comic creations are eclectic in terms of themes, genres and forms of expression. He has excellent works such as humor paintings, satires, praise comics, style comics, report comics, comic strips, etc. In particular, he uses the comic style of combining the plots of a series of things to illustrate a theme (such as "Scan of a Man in a Certain Agency", "Interesting Words on Filling in a Form", etc.), which are easy to draw and full of fun, showing the author's unique combination of logic and image thinking. Talent.
Some people say that every pore on comic skin is filled with information cells from the macro and micro worlds. Cartoonists need to have a smart mind, keen eyes and rich knowledge. In this way, we can seize the opportunity of essential contradictions in ordinary life appearances, and extract concise and pertinent artistic language from the complicated emotional entanglements. It can be said that Zhang Bin's recent work "The Tide" (which won the Golden Monkey Award for Chinese Comics) has once again verified this conclusion. For a long time, the phenomenon of one-size-fits-all, one-size-fits-all, and follow-the-wind trends in Chinese society regardless of time, place, conditions, or characteristics has been ubiquitous. This malady has caused great harm to the country and the people. If you are small, you will deceive others and harm yourself. The author of "Tide" reveals this profound social issue through the scene of many animals changing into the winning zebra fur pattern. The humor includes spicy sarcasm, making it simple and concise. Others, such as "Local Regulations", which criticizes the complicated procedures and difficulty in getting things done, and "This Pillar Must Be Replaced with a Stronger Root", which only scratches the surface but does not solve the problem, are also cleverly conceived and thought-provoking works.
Ignoring technical skills is a misunderstanding in improving comic creation. As a cartoonist, Zhang Bin has mastered solid modeling techniques and skillful expression ability. His cartoons have perfect composition, rigorous structure and vivid images. Long-term creative practice and being good at using his brain to sum up experience enabled Zhang Bin to gradually understand himself and give full play to his own advantages. He did not inherit the established techniques of the famous forefathers, but went his own way, using pens to draw lines, and both text and pictures. The characters and environment are combined with the expressive means of light and dark processing to form a distinctive style, which is an important sign that the painter's artistic path has matured.
Zhang Bin has been engaged in comic creation in 1986 and has created more than a thousand comics. He has won many awards at domestic and foreign comic exhibitions. Zhang Bin can be described as a diligent, enterprising, high-quality and productive person. Outstanding. The last thing I want to mention is that 17 years of military life made Zhang Bin an outstanding military cartoonist. He also made Zhang Bin the organizer and leader of a cartoon creation group of the Air Force. He led and supported He founded the "Military School Comics" tabloid, held four comic training courses, and trained more than 70 comic creation backbones from various aspects of aviation, aircraft maintenance, and logistics. The achievements were outstanding and widely praised by the military community. Not long after Zhang Bin transferred to Heilongjiang Daily this year as art editor, with the strong support of the newspaper's leaders, he started planning to create a special edition of "Comics Jingwei", opening up a new field for the prosperity of comics creation. Obviously, Zhang Bin's artistic practice is no longer limited to the small world of personal creation. He has extended his professionalism to the entire comic industry. I think the latter is more valuable.

Emotionally moved and felt in the heart

Published in "Heilongjiang Daily" on December 27, 1995;
Reprinted in "Xiamen Evening News" on March 23, 1996;
April 4, 1996 Reprinted by Xinjiang Daily.
In the past fifteen years, the new history has provided opportunities for the vigorous development of comic art in our country, and a number of new comics have emerged, including many outstanding ones, Comrade Zhang Bin is one of them.
Zhang Bin, like most cartoonists, has not received professional art education. Although the ten years of catastrophe delayed his studies, he was a qualified student in the university of society. He worked as a worker and served in the Air Force for 17 years. At this time, my country was catching up with the revival of comics, and Zhang Bin focused his vision on the comics he had loved as a boy. Facts have proved that his choice and self-design were successful. When he was in the army, he founded a cartoon newspaper, which attracted many comrades to use cartoons to enrich the cultural life of the military camp and build spiritual civilization. Two years ago, he took off his military uniform and entered the journalism world. He became the chief editor of Heilongjiang Daily and presided over the editing work of the newspaper's "Manga Jingwei" pictorial magazine, with outstanding achievements. Zhang Bin's success is mainly reflected in his creative practice. His creations are remarkable for their extraordinary output and high volume.
A successful comic work is the product of a combination of logical thinking and image thinking; in the creative process, logical thinking dominates and is the key to determining the success or failure of the work. This is different from other plastic arts. This characteristic also brings some obvious disadvantages to the art of comics, that is, authors (especially beginners) often only work on conception and ideas, ignore the creation of pictures, and despise the aesthetic pursuit of comics, resulting in a large number of artistic problems. Rough works appeared in newspapers, giving people the misunderstanding that comics do not need to focus on painting skills. Zhang Bin entered the field of comic creation and quickly got rid of his childish stage, and challenged the impetuous trend of the comics industry with his own creative practice. In terms of conception, he never just dabbles, but uses a variety of means to deeply explore the theme. What he reflects in his works are the hot issues of social life, and there is no trace of aimlessness or unnecessary moaning; he often uses multiple pictures to reveal A thematic approach has become a distinctive feature of his works. This method can enrich the connotation of the theme and provide readers with greater appreciation capacity.
The cartoons we see in newspapers and periodicals are mostly drawn with single-line white drawing, which is a long-term development of artists restricted by printing technology. With the innovation of printing technology, the expression techniques of cartoons have also changed. Provides diverse prospects. In order to strengthen the artistic taste of creation, Zhang Bin pays attention to the refinement of techniques and is committed to the formation of personal style. He said: I like good cartoons that are concisely drawn, but my own drawings are not concise because what I pursue is to be as different from other people's paintings as possible. He often borrows the techniques of copper engraving to create richer shapes and enhance the quality of the picture. This is not an easy task for a self-taught painter. It is not difficult to imagine the hard artistic labor required. In 1993, the comic "Chao" created by Zhang Bin was selected for the National Comic Exhibition held that year and won the China Comic Golden Monkey Award. The painting is striking from conception to execution. The author borrows the expression method of fables to reveal a typical problem in today's social life - formalism has become a scourge. This work poignantly criticizes this social phenomenon with an appropriate expression method; the composition, coloring, and shape of the picture are also perfect, fully demonstrating the author's creative strength.
Zhang Bin’s comic career only lasts for more than ten years. He has published more than 1,400 cartoons and won more than 40 awards of different levels at the provincial level and above. He has won the love of readers and the attention of the comic industry with his hard work.
The publication of this collection of paintings is a summary of Zhang Bin's art journey; he will continue to journey in the future. I believe that Zhang Bin will set the benchmark for his pursuit higher. To surpass it, more efforts must be made. I am willing to encourage Comrade Zhang Bin.

Meeting Zhang Bin outside the door
Wang Jiabin. He was then deputy editor-in-chief of Heilongjiang Daily
Published on the fifth page of "Guangming Daily" on August 4, 1995, and reprinted in "Harbin Daily" on September 10, 1995
Zhang Bin and I are colleagues. He drew cartoons and I wrote words. We were in the same building but in different rooms. He was transferred to Heilongjiang Daily not long ago, and I often looked at his work from across the door, so naturally what I got was mostly superficial knowledge.
But the impression is still vivid. First, he has published many works. According to rough records, in the past two years alone, he has published more than 400 paintings in various domestic newspapers and periodicals.
Secondly, there are many award-winning works. National ones, such as "After the Award" won the third prize of the National Good News Award in 1988; "Energy-Saving Aircraft" won the Humor Award of the First National Modern Humor Painting Exhibition; "Within China" won the 1990 Excellent Award of "Satire and Humor" Work Award; "Tide" won the Golden Monkey Award for Chinese Comics. Including local and professional awards, there are more than forty times. Third, Zhang Bin’s comics are easy to recognize. Most of his characters have short statures, shiny backs, pointed leather shoes, exaggerated expressions, and are supplemented by backgrounds (props). When you read them, you don’t need to look at the names. You can recognize it as a painting by Zhang Bin. He has many works and won many awards, which shows that he is diligent in hard work, has a rigorous attitude towards creation, and the quality is quite high. Being instantly recognizable means that his comics are maturing and forming their own style.
Zhang Bin’s father and cousin both studied architecture, and they are closely related to painting. Especially my cousin Zhang Qinzhe, who loves comics and has profound attainments. Those who are close to vermilion are red, and Zhang Bin also liked to draw pictures since he was a child. He has been engaged in amateur creation of oil painting, printmaking and gouache painting for more than ten years. He has never entered an art school and knows that his basic skills in modeling and sketching are not solid. However, he liked philosophy, loved observing, and was willing to ponder. He also had the ability to tell jokes with a straight face and turn heavy things into light. In addition, due to the limitations and needs of the environment in which he was engaged in mass cultural work at the time, he chose to work with comics. Got attached.
It is not easy to study comics. Zhang Bin said that he admires the style and skills of the predecessors in the comics industry in my country and admires those works that look concise, free and easy, and have vivid charm. But for me, who has never studied Chinese painting or calligraphy and is not familiar with brushes, it is difficult to learn. Using a pen that allows for calm carving and meticulous carving is Yang Ji's strength. Because of this, his comics are outlined with pens and supplemented by light and dark processing, similar to copper engravings; the pictures have emotions (plots), scenes (backgrounds), and dialogues. This seems to go against the ancient adage of cutting out the complex and simplifying the three autumn trees. The reason for this is that he is not good at using brushes. On the other hand, I think it may have something to do with the content it deliberately expresses. He also painted style paintings and humorous paintings. What he painted were more cartoons based on real life, clarifying right and wrong, writing praise and blame, and conveying love and hate. The main theme of the painting requires that the expression and technique must be clear and smooth, so that people can understand it at a glance. Even if it is subtle and suggestive, it cannot make people guess riddles or read obscure poems. In order to avoid his own shortcomings, Zhang Bin found a new way with his pen, and mobilized background, dialogue and other means to adopt the form of multiple paintings. These may not be considered Sanqiu trees in terms of traditional and simplified terms, but they are more conducive to expressing specific content. And readers can recognize it as Zhang Bin's at a glance. In this sense, it can be regarded as a new February flower with a different standard. Zhang Bin's comic strips cover a wide range of subjects. It covers almost all aspects of social life; the theme is mainly to criticize current ills, strengthen righteousness and eliminate evil. The targets they target are mostly the focus of social life and the hot spots of public concern. It can be said that he is very good at creating this kind of works.
This is mainly due to his consciously broadening his horizons, caring about current affairs, having extensive contact with society, and paying attention to the world and people everywhere, without limiting himself to a certain subject. In his words: Children who are not picky eaters grow fat. Of course, a rich source of life does not equal works. Without profound insight and analytical skills and high expressive power, it will be difficult to turn the nutrients of life into artistic delicacies. Zhang Bin is diligent in observation and is good at extracting typical and realistic themes from the seemingly ordinary and trivial aspects of life, and resorting to pictures through unique ideas. Many of his paintings are multiple pieces, that is, several plots are selected to express a theme, which shows his ability to refine life. For example, "Taboo" captures the inner scars of several typical professionals and satirizes and ridicules them. The wonderful thing is that teachers are taboo because they care about face, while others are afraid of being exposed because they are mean or not abiding by the law. The author brings them together to form a strong contrast, which greatly enriches and deepens the connotation of the subject.
People often refer to comics as visual essays. It's not just that they look similar - they are short and concise, but they also have similar functions: they can be used to praise, criticize, satirize, enlighten or entertain. To the enemy you are like a dagger or a spear, but to yourself you are a flower with thorns. But as the foundation of its creation, it is mainly its satirical and critical functions, or its combative nature. When Mr. Lu Xun discussed the social function of essays, he emphasized that they should be daggers and spears, nerves for induction, and limbs for offense and defense; he opposed treating essays as small furnishings for scholar-bureaucrats to caress and play with. It can also give people pleasure and rest, but this pleasure and rest should be recuperation and preparation before work and battle. Cartoons should also be viewed in the same way. Of course, this is no longer the era of Lu Xun, and it may not be of much use in the fight against the enemy in the future; but among the people, due to all kinds of violations of laws and disciplines, unhealthy trends, ignorance, backwardness, and old habits, they are often corrupted. Cartoons are of great use, dispersing our cause, and allowing people to be warned, warned, and enlightened while laughing in these dark corners under the sun.
In fact, focusing on the combat function of comics is a fine tradition in Chinese comic creation. Relying on the sensory nerves and offensive and defensive functions of comics is sometimes a good tradition in our country's newspapers. These two traditions are well reflected in Zhang Bin's work and creation. As a cartoonist, he pays attention to national affairs and uses his own creations to contribute to the progress of society. As mentioned above, he is the art editor of Heilongjiang Daily. He proposed the creation of the "Comics Jingwei" special page, contacted authors extensively, and organized cartoon activities. spare no effort.
Maybe it is for this reason that his work, creation and even personal education have always been cared for and rewarded by famous cartoonists such as Hua Junwu, Yingtao and Fang Cheng. In a letter written to Zhang Bin, Hua Lao earnestly urged him to develop the habit of reading. He should read everything about politics, history, culture, and art, but first of all, politics, in order to improve his ability to analyze complex things. Only in this way can the comics be separated from the matter-of-fact and have the depth of thought. Another letter said: Don’t be complacent in your creations, and avoid kittens’ butts (Hua Lao once had a painting called “You Can’t Touch a Kitten’s Butt”).
Zhang Bing has just entered his forties and has only been creating for about ten years. It is commendable to have such achievements. But there are no limits to art. How to better achieve the unity of profundity of thought, accuracy of expression, and propriety is a difficult problem that is often solved and constantly new for everyone, and Zhang Bin is no exception. You must also have the spirit of being willing to marry and support future generations, so as to unite the vast number of like-minded people and promote the prosperity of the comics industry. None of this is easy. However, after all, he is still young. With his diligence and study, in time, he will surely impress others.

Emotions in the mind and feelings in the heart - Collection of wonderful works by cartoonist Zhang Bin 2015-11-29 Guangzhou Daily Museum Collection - Art Grand View
Sixty A period of one year, forty years of comic love.
Old readers who are familiar with Guangzhou Daily will definitely be familiar with the name "Zhang Bin". From illustrations and columns on the page to weekly ink paintings in recent years, Zhang Bin's comics have been accompanying readers of Guangzhou Daily for 15 years. Over the past 15 years, tens of thousands of wonderful cartoon works have become a beautiful sight in Guangzhou Daily.
The highest Golden Monkey Award in the Chinese cartoon industry, two first prizes in the China News Awards, more than ten first prizes in the Guangdong News Awards, and multiple grand prizes in international cartoon competitions... Since he started working at the age of 17, Zhang Hama Comics has won many awards. Just like Wang Fuyang, former director of the Cartoon Art Committee of the Chinese Artists Association and chairman of the Beijing Artists Association, said that Zhang Bin had not received professional art education. Although the ten years of catastrophe delayed his studies, he was still in the "university" of society. Here, he is a qualified student. He worked as a worker and served in the Air Force for 17 years. While in the army, he founded a comic newspaper, which attracted many comrades to use comics to enrich the cultural life of the military camp. After that, he took off his military uniform and entered the journalism world, presiding over the editing work of the "Heilongjiang Daily" comic Jingwei Pictorial. After that, he was transferred to the "Guangzhou Daily" and won wide recognition from readers and the comics industry with a large number of extraordinary creations. Many of the award-winning works were originally published in Guangzhou Daily.
“It’s really good, great!” This is the evaluation of Zhang Bin’s comics by Guangzhou neighbors. While at Guangzhou Daily, Zhang Bin published more than 11,000 illustrations and cartoons in the newspaper, among which the "Zhang Bin Cartoons" column lasted for nearly 10 years. Zhang Bin said that because of the comic column, he is used to paying attention to unreasonable and unfair things in society, so as to arouse people's conscience with works that are current and correct, and do his best to purify social atmosphere; because of the comic column, his works I took a million copies of "Guangzhou Daily" to visit government schools, businesses, streets, and residential buildings in Yangcheng, and made friends with many comic-loving readers.
From 2006 to 2007, Zhang Bin began to draw half a page of international current affairs cartoons and foreign humor of his own choice every week in the "Guangzhou Daily", investing a lot of energy in the research of international issues and the creation of current affairs cartoons. , has published more than 160 international cartoons and more than 110 foreign humor articles in 41 issues of the illustrated magazine. Many of his works have been reproduced by major websites and newspapers, and have won awards both at home and abroad. Since last year, he has published more than 200 ink cartoons in Guangzhou Daily.
Fang Cheng, former president of the China News Cartoon Research Association and senior editor of the People's Daily, described Zhang Bin's cartoon creation with the words "professionalism and diligence". In order to enhance the artistic taste of his creation, Zhang Bin pays attention to the refinement of techniques and often borrows the techniques of copper engraving to enrich the shapes and enhance the texture of the picture. For a self-taught cartoonist, it is not difficult to imagine the arduous artistic labor required.
Ying Tao, former deputy director of the Literature and Art Department of People's Daily and editor-in-chief of "Satire and Humor" commented that Zhang Bin's cartoons can be said to be a comprehensive view of social life. The most outstanding thing is that they draw a wide range of materials and are close to life. He is not only good at organizing things of the same category and nature into one work, but he can also skillfully integrate things of different categories and nature into one work.
Indeed, reading Zhang Bin's comics often gives people the pleasure of "expanding their imagination". He has created many works that criticize current ills, with ingenious materials, humorous expressions and refined techniques. They can catch people's attention at the first sight. They will make people smile knowingly at first sight, and then they will praise and applaud them. They are really endless aftertaste.
Now, Zhang Bin, who has been engaged in comics for 43 years and is in his sixties, is about to retire honorably. Although he will leave his front-line position, he will continue to create with great passion and love for comics. Emotions are in the heart, feelings are in the heart. Zhang Bin said that his heart will always be with the millions of readers of Guangzhou Daily. This edition specially selects his comic masterpieces for the enjoyment of readers.
