Sanrao's "Daoyun Building"

Panorama of Daoyun Building

Appearance of Daoyun Building

Daoyun Building, located in Nanlian Village, Sanrao, Raoping County, was built in the 15th year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1587) and is the largest octagonal Hakka paddock in China. At its peak, Tulou could accommodate more than 600 Hakkas, and now there are still more than 65,438+000 people living in Tulou. The wall thickness of the earth building is 1.6m, and the wall height is above11m.. The feature of tulou is that the whole tulou is related to gossip everywhere, and the number of all buildings is a multiple of 8, such as 32 wells, 16 skylights, 72 rooms, 1 12 ladders. There are two wells in the middle hall of the earth building, which looks like gossip. Earth buildings have eight functions: waterproof, fire-proof, animal-proof, earthquake-proof, anti-theft and drought-proof. The tiles of the earth building are wrapped in earth cloth and then burned. Now you can distinguish the cloth pattern on the edge of the tiles. Bamboo nails are used in earth buildings, and there are no signs of decay after many years. It is said that during the Shunzhi period of the Qing Dynasty, the tulou was surrounded by bandits incorporated by the government for three months and could not be broken. Hundreds of residents in the tulou lived on stored grain and well water, and used the inner ditch above the tulou for irrigation to protect officers and men from gunfire, thus avoiding the disaster. There are three-story circular houses in front of and behind the earth building, and the outermost circle is three stories high. Hundreds of years later, the earth building is still very strong. In the earthquake 80 years ago, most of the houses nearby collapsed, but only a few houses in the earth building tilted left and right, supporting the whole earth building. According to the local elderly living in Tulou, it is a coincidence that Tulou was built into a gossip-shaped paddock. At first, it was designed as a circular paddock, and it was only after three constructions and three falls that a large-scale gossip paddock was built, which is rare in China.
