First, couplets pay attention to meaning and seek good luck.
First of all, when we buy red paper, we have both printed red paper and handmade red paper. Regardless of the price, you should understand that couplets are hung outdoors. Good paper will not change color under the oxidation of wind, rain and sunlight. After sticking for a whole year, the brightness of the paper will lose about 10% at most. Inexperienced book lovers turn pale after posting for less than three months. Whether the handwriting is good or not is another matter. Paper must be auspicious and permanent.
Second, the style should stand up to the venue.
This involves the level of writers. Look at the Forbidden City, big universities and couplets from ancient times to the present. The strokes should be thick but not thin, and the characters should be healthy but not weak.
If the thin gold style in the Song Dynasty and the pavilion style in the Ming and Qing Dynasties are absolutely inappropriate, Bian Xiao is already a bad old man with a beard and hardly reads such fine fonts. It is not that he writes badly, but that he writes inappropriately.
Third, excellent Spring Festival couplets are the product of the combination of artistry and practicality.
If you are a master of calligraphy, it is counterproductive to write Spring Festival couplets with pure artistic techniques, because on the one hand, others can't appreciate them, on the other hand, too many techniques make couplets look particularly fancy.
If your book is too neat and lacks brushwork and spelling skills, you will feel single and lack of change.
