Reminiscing about the past in Songcheng: Xiashan Temple where incense flourished in the past (edited by Jia Suinan)

Since ancient times, the "Little Three Gorges of the Xijiang River" (Sirong Gorge, Dading Gorge, and Antelope Gorge) have beautiful scenery, pleasant colors, profound culture, and numerous historic sites. The pleasing artistic landscape paintings have attracted countless literati, poets and travelers from all over the world to stop here, express their feelings and sing their chants!

Antelope Gorge is located in the southeast of Zhaoqing. Among the "Xijiang Little Three Gorges", it is the longest, most majestic, most spectacular and most beautiful section of the canyon, with a total length of about eight kilometers. Here, one water reaches the sea, two mountains reach into the clouds, the shadows of boats are reflected in the waves, and there are layers of green forests, and the scenery is beautiful. This place has always been a place for literati, poets and travelers from all over the world to visit, and many poems of praise have been left behind.

? Xiashan Temple, also known as Lingshan Temple, Lingshan Temple and Lingyang Temple.

According to "Zhaoqing City Chronicles", Xiashan Temple was built in the Liang Dynasty of the Southern Dynasty. It was built earlier than Baiyun Temple and Qingyun Temple in Dinghu Mountain. It is one of the "Thirty-six Temples in Dinghu Mountain". Later, the temple was destroyed by fire and no longer exists today.

? The ruins of Xiashan Temple are located at the entrance of Lingyang Gorge on the north bank of the Xijiang River. It is located on Lingshan Mountain and faces Linghua Temple on the south bank of the Xijiang River across the river. At that time, Xiashan and Linghua temples stood across the river, and the monks' calls from across the river echoed on both sides of the river, which was quite interesting.

In June of the first year of Shenlong in the Tang Dynasty (705), Shen Quanqi was implicated in flattering Zhang Yizhi, a favored minister of Wu Zetian, and was exiled to Huanzhou (near today's Nghe An Province, Vietnam).

In June of the following year, Shen Quanqi was called back to the north. He was overjoyed and in a happy mood. He passed through Duanzhou and visited Xiashan Temple. He wrote "Ode to Xiashan Temple (with Preface)" in his excitement, describing the prosperity of the temple. It says:

? The person from Xiashan Temple is named Duanzhou. There are quite a lot of strange rocks in the mountains and rivers. The flying spring falls back, and it appears under the plum bamboo. From the transition point to the top of the mountain, there are several layers of stone paths and Zhaifang bathing hall, which is in Yunhan. In the summer and June of the second year of Shenlong, Yu abandoned his southern origin and returned to the north. At the corner of Jie Lian Mountain, Zhou Ye visited the Jingshe and made a fortune for it.

Xiashan Jingshe is a wonderful place on Duanxi River. There is a red spring in the middle, separated by Feibiling. If the Ninja Hall is on the bank, the meditation hall is pillowed on the river, osmanthus leaves smoke the doors, and lotus flowers shine on the windows. The throne of the lion with silver letter, the pillar of the golden temple with wind and phoenix, the wild deer is brave and tamed, and the pheasant dances in love. Thousand-story ancient niches, hundreds of bright pools, streamers and lanterns shine through in the evening, and staff bowls face the culvert. The flaming light is lost in the trees, the cool breeze is born in the tall bamboos, the immortals are enjoying the joy of heaven, and the rain of flowers and fragrant clouds are in harmony. The Dharma couple is wandering around, the fasting room is open, the ape in the heart has gone away for a long time, and the fearful swan comes from time to time.

? Those who walk on what to do, run into the wild fields. Xuan Zhao, the capital, is at the foot of Weizhou Mountain. Jishou Medical King swears that the heart is impermanent. Why did you leave your country for what career? Why do you want to go to your hometown now? How can we accept the past and predict disaster in the future? That is to say, I bowed and looked inside, but fortunately I didn't hurt myself. When the heart understands humiliation, it knows how to tolerate it; when the traces are poor, it knows how to discern the prescription. Jia's recent exile has been the foundation of my life.

? Yang Heng, a poet of the Tang Dynasty and one of the "Four Friends of the Mountain" (Cui Qun, Fu Zai, Song Ji, and Yang Heng) passed through Duanzhou and visited Xiashan Temple, and wrote a poem "Visiting Xiashan Temple" , praising the temple. The poem goes:

? The structure is on the south bank of the sky, and the victory is absolutely difficult.

? When the moon rises for pedestrians, thousands of peaks will rise again.

? The sea market fights for jade, and the creek fights for hibiscus.

? The ancient trees grow high in oak trees, and the Yin Pond is full of pine trees.

? Where can I stay? The clouds are separated by the Xixia.
