Who is your favorite Korean female historical figure? Why?

Actually, it's hard for me to say because I'm not a history buff. So far I can tell you all the women in history that I know about and why.

Shin Shidang was a painter and calligrapher in the Joseon Dynasty. The mother of the pet named Yi I (worth 5,000 won in Korea). She is remembered for her beautiful artwork, filial piety and being a great mother. She even appeared on South Korea's 50,000 won.

She is well educated and talented. While caring for her parents and seven children, she created beautiful paintings and poems. She was dedicated to her art even when Confucian values ??discouraged women from doing so.

Queen Seondeok is the first female ruler in Korean history. After her father's death, she inherited the throne and ruled the Silla Kingdom for 15 years. As we all know, Queen Seondeok is a smart and capable ruler. She inherited the throne during the Three Kingdoms period of turmoil and war. Yet, she holds the kingdom together. She even forged a stronger alliance with the Tang Dynasty.

*Queen Seondeok is known as a clairvoyant. She can predict things. For example, it is said that she predicted her own death to the exact day of the month, and she actually died on that day.

Being the first ruler in Korean history is enough for her to go down in history, but what’s even cooler is that she was a good ruler and ruled her kingdom wisely. Additionally, she set an example that women could rule a kingdom. Her reign opened the door for other queens, including her heir and cousin Queen Jindek (who also ruled successfully).

Empress myyeongseong, also known as Queen Min, is the wife of Gojong, the first emperor of North Korea and the 26th King of North Korea. She was very influential during the First Sino-Japanese War. She worked hard to modernize Korea. Empress Myeong-cheng wanted religious tolerance, education for girls, and a modern army. She had people study China, Japan, and the United States to modernize Korea and learn from these countries. She also developed strong ties with Russia to defend against Japanese attacks. She is more interested in politics than her husband. She was the first queen of Korea to rule the country with her husband.

Empress Mingcheng was assassinated by Japanese agents. Her body was burned and buried. More than 50 people were accused of involvement in the assassination of Queen Mingcheng.

Empress Myeongseong helped North Korea quickly modernize. She encouraged religious freedom, encouraged girls to get an education, and she helped develop the economy and the military. She is influential, talented, smart, and focused on her goals. She accomplished a lot during her time as queen.

You can see the image of Queen Myeongseong in the 2001 TV series "The Queen of Myeongseong", the 2009 movie "The Nameless Sword" and the 2014 TV series "The Gunslinger of Joseon".

Queen Ji was one of the queens of Togen Temul in the Yuan Dynasty. She was a Goryeo woman who was sent to the Yuan Dynasty as a tribute. She became the concubine of Togen Temur, also known as Emperor Huizong. The emperor fell in love with her because of her beauty and talent. She is very talented in singing, dancing, art and so on. After the first queen was deposed, Song Huizong wanted to make Ji An his queen, but he encountered opposition because Ji An was Korean. Later, she gave birth to the prince (who later became the crown prince and emperor) and was named queen.

As time went on, Togan Temur lost interest in governing, giving Queen Kiss the opportunity to express her power. She rules in his stead. During this period, the Yuan Dynasty was prosperous and peaceful. Although the Yuan Dynasty she ruled was prosperous, her reputation is not the best in today's China or Korea. During her time in power, she handed enormous power to her brother in North Korea, making him the de facto ruler. In the end, the citizens of the King of Goryeo exterminated the Ji family, and Queen Ji retaliated with an army, but failed to defeat Goryeo's army.

*The cause of the Queen’s death is currently unclear.

After her son succeeded to the throne and the Yuan Dynasty fell, she disappeared.

Although Queen Ji Ji was not loved by many in either Korea or China, she remained a successful ruler when the emperor lost interest in ruling. She was obviously capable, smart and cunning to gain the emperor's love and trust. She was able to become queen and rule even though she was backward
