What's on the calligraphy desk?

To learn brush calligraphy, besides preparing the well-known Four Treasures of the Study-pen, ink, paper and inkstone, there is actually an essential tool.

That is—

Felt, also known as painting felt.

So why use felt?

Because rice paper and wool paper will absorb water and ink, if there is nothing under the paper, the ink will directly soak on the table, dirty the table and affect the writing effect.

When writing on Xuan paper and wool paper, the paper must be padded with felt, and the surface of the felt should have fluff. Dragging the rice paper to make it in suspension will not only help to exert the ink effect of the rice paper, but also prevent it from sticking to the rice paper. At the same time, the excess ink will be absorbed by the felt, thus avoiding polluting the paper and desk.

1, according to the production materials, there are pure wool and fiber+wool (there are few pure wool felts now, and they are basically blended with wool and chemical fiber)

2. According to the style, there are cases and examples.

One side has a grid, the other side has no grid, and both sides can be used together.

3. According to the color of the felt, there are white, gray and black.

1, feel: feel tight by hand, indicating that the felt has high density and good quality.

If the feel is soft and the wool density is sparse, it means that the felt material is blended, and the surface of the felt will pilling after a period of time.

2, water absorption: drop a few drops of water on the felt, and then observe that the felt with high wool content has better water absorption.

3. Burning: Take a pinch of wool from the felt, light it with a lighter and knead it into powder, which proves that it is pure wool felt; If it is kneaded into granules, it proves to be chemical fiber.

It is recommended to choose a dense felt.

For beginners, if their choice is too troublesome, they can go to the calligraphy shop for consultation or buy directly online (Congcong usually chooses some well-known Tmall stores to buy, and the quality is more reliable).

When using the felt, cherish it as much as possible. Don't deliberately smear ink on the felt, and don't write directly on the felt, because the felt should not be washed with water as much as possible, and the washed wool will become loose and uneven.

If you don't use it for a long time, you should always put the felt in the sun to dry and dust it to avoid insects.
