Lin is the eldest daughter of Lin Zexu, and later married Liu Qiwei. Liu's condition is not very good, and Liu Qiwei is an orphan. So why did Lin Zexu betroth his daughter to a poor scholar? This is the characteristic of Lin Zexu looking for a son-in-law. He doesn't look at his family background, only at whether his son-in-law has a future. Although Liu Qi was born in poverty, he was diligent and enterprising, attracting his father-in-law, Lin Zexu.
Liu Qi's title did not disappoint his father-in-law. After several years of marriage, he became a scholar in high school. From then on, he entered the official career and was appointed Minister of Housing. His title is six, which is higher than all the sons of Lin Zexu. After Lin Puqing became the daughter-in-law of Shenyang, in order to reduce the burden of her in-laws, she didn't spend money to hire a maid, but took care of the housework herself. Lin Puqing takes good care of her husband and mother-in-law, and the affection between her and her husband is also very good.
Lin Zexu really has a good eye for his son-in-law. Shen Baozhen was admitted as a scholar at the age of 28, and was appointed as an editor by the Qing government. Later, because of his outstanding performance, he was promoted to monitor the imperial history (from the fifth grade), and at the age of 36, he was promoted to Jiujiang magistrate (from the fourth grade).
1856, Shen Baozhen went to work in Guangxin, Jiangxi. Prior to this, the Taiping Army marched into Jiangxi twice and captured more than 50 counties. Soon, during Shen Baozhen's business trip, the Taiping Army attacked Guangxin again. Guangxin has no owner, and it is chaotic in an instant. Many officials fled with their families. Some people suggested that Lin Puqing escape, but Lin Puqing opposed it. Lin Puqing and the general guarding the city calmed the people and led them to hold the city gate. At the same time, he wrote a bloody book to his father's old subordinate Lin Zexu, asking him to send troops for reinforcements.
