When we were breaking up that night, I remember that around 11pm, he said, don’t worry, let me introduce it to you. What I said was not something I came up with myself, but what I heard from the teacher. That man's name was Pan Yuting. He was in the school and he had never noticed him before. After listening to his introduction, Song Jie and I went to Mr. Pan's place and saw that there were already a group of people there, most of whom later went abroad, and some of them were very famous in society. Then we met each other so late, every day was new, even the notes were marked with exclamation marks. The idea of ??saving notes came very late, in fact it was not too late, more than a year later. Long before that, I had started to assist Mr. Pan in doing things. I think this kind of unique knowledge that ordinary people don't understand is very important to our nation. Mr. Pan understood all the knowledge available at that time, not just a certain school or a certain school. Twenty years later, I reorganized this book and I didn’t feel that it was far behind. Speaking from traditional culture, there is something similar to induction. What you really want in your heart will eventually come true over time, at least for me. We didn't understand it at all at the time. There were coincidences like this. We are pure and have no other distracting thoughts. However, this incident, I believe it changed my life. I have been editing Mr. Pan’s manuscripts for twenty years. Mr. Pan has published almost a dozen books so far, but few people in the academic community have read them. It doesn't matter, I saved it so that people who want to see it can see it, and I have fulfilled my responsibility. These eight diaries were originally academic, and some personal matters were deleted in a controlled manner during the compilation. There is no separation between Chinese academics and daily life, and I intentionally retained some other content. For example, when writing about the fire at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, if there is a record in the history of the school, there really was a fire that day. This is the so-called true record. ■ (Speech delivered at a symposium at the School of International Relations, East China Normal University, on the afternoon of March 14, 2012, compiled based on the shorthand draft)
