What kind of person was Wang Huizhi in history?

Wang Huizhi (?-388), courtesy name Ziyou, the fifth son of Wang Xizhi, was a famous scholar and calligrapher in the Eastern Jin Dynasty. He successively served as a charioteer and cavalry officer, Grand Sima, and Huangmen Minister. He learned calligraphy from his father since he was a child. He is good at cursive cursive and excels in rhyme. Among the brothers, only Huizhi has gained the power. He once participated in the Lanting Conference. His calligraphy achievements are second only to his younger brother Wang Xianzhi among the Wang brothers. His calligraphy is handed down from generation to generation. Posts include "Sister-in-law's illness does not diminish", "New Moon Post", etc. There is a biography in "Book of Jin". It is recorded in Shishuoxinyu. Wang Huizhi was "unruly" by nature and "unruly" in his life. Even when he became an official, he was "unkempt" and "not involved in government affairs". Huan Chong once advised him that as an official, he should dress appropriately and handle official duties seriously and seriously. He ignored Huan Wen's words and continued to wander around all day long. Due to his "unruly nature", he could not stand the constraints of various rules in the court. Not long after he took up the post of Huangmen Minister, he "abandoned his official position and returned eastward" and retreated to Shanyin. Wang Huizhi loved bamboo by nature. After he gave up his official position and retired, he found that there was no bamboo around his house. He immediately planted bamboos around the house with his own hands. He whistled and chanted bamboo under the bamboo forest every day. Bamboo became an extremely important thing in his life. Someone asked him why he liked bamboo so much, and he replied: "This king is so noble, how can he not be evil for a day!" Later, Wang Huizhi bought a villa nearby. He was very satisfied with the environment around the villa, but Unfortunately there is no bamboo around the villa. Wang Huizhi was not used to living in a place without bamboo, so he sent people to plant large areas of bamboo around the villa and on nearby hillsides. Metaphysics was prevalent in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, and casual conversation became a fashion. Affected by it, many people advocated indulgence in drinking and drinking. The same was true for Wang Huizhi, whose story of visiting Dai Kui on a snowy night became an eternal legend. One night, it suddenly started snowing heavily. Wang Huiyi woke up at midnight. He ordered his servants to open the windows and serve wine and food. While drinking, he looked into the distance and saw only a vast expanse of white. Wang Huizhi felt a little hesitant, so he recited Zuo Si's poem "Zhao Yin". As he was reciting, he suddenly remembered his good friend Dai Kui of Yanxi, a famous sage of the generation at that time, so he immediately decided to visit him. Dai Kui moved to Shan County in Kuaiji (today's Shengzhou City). Shanyin and Shan County were separated by more than a hundred miles. Wang Huizhi took advantage of the wine and took a boat up the river overnight, regardless of the cold weather and the long distance. By noon the next day, He arrived at the door of Dai Kui's house, but instead of going in to visit Dai Kui, he ordered his servant to turn around and return to his home in Shanyin. Someone asked Wang Huizhi, you went all the way to visit your friend, why didn't you come back when you arrived at the friend's house? Wang Huizhi replied calmly: "I came here for fun and came back exhausted, why should I meet Dai?" Among the brothers, Wang Huizhi had the deepest relationship with his younger brother Wang Xianzhi, and Wang Xianzhi also respected his brother Wang Huizhi very much. Later, Wang Xianzhi fell seriously ill and could not afford to fall ill. He passed away shortly before his brother Huizhi. Wang Huizhi's family was afraid that he would not be able to accept the distressing news, so they did not tell him about Wang Xianzhi's death. But Wang Huizhi was thinking about his sick brother all the time. Soon he guessed the truth from the expressions of his family members, and then he burst into tears and said to himself: "It seems that Zijing has passed away before me!" So, accompanied by his family, he came to Wang Xianzhi's home and sat down on Wang Xianzhi's funeral bed. Wang Huizhi knew that his younger brother liked to play the piano during his lifetime, so he asked Xianzhi's family to bring Zijing's piano to him. Wang Huizhi sat on the funeral bed and played the piano while recalling the deep friendship between the two brothers. The more he thought about it, the more distressed he became. After playing it several times, he could not form a tune, so he raised the piano in his hand and threw it to the ground. The piano was broken into pieces, and he sighed: "Zijing! Zijing! Now everyone is dead!" After saying this, he fainted on the coffin bed. About a month later, Wang Huizhi followed his younger brother to the west of Hexi. The deep friendship between their brothers has become an eternal legend. Wang Huizhi was also able to write, and he once had a collection of eight volumes, which has been lost. One of the surviving articles can be found in "Essays of the Three Ancient Dynasties, Qin, Han, Three Kingdoms and Six Dynasties"; two poems can be found in "Poems of Pre-Qin, Han, Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties".
