Celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Party ——Introduction to the Special Exhibition of Works by Contemporary Oracle Bone Calligraphy Masters
□ Yang Muching
Celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Party is a major event for the Chinese people. The world pays attention to the celebration. Different industries, Different professions celebrate in different ways, remembering the glorious history of the party and looking forward to the blueprint of the party!
On this occasion of celebration, it is very good that Hao Fuqiang, a new generation of Internet media person, can carefully plan such a special exhibition, together with the "New Media Exhibition of 75 Chinese Calligraphers and Painters to Commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the United Nations" ", "United Nations Chinese Language Day·Chinese calligraphy masters from 24 countries write China's 24 solar terms", "Contemporary artists write the Chinese historical calendar", "2021 United Nations Chinese Language Day·Chinese artists respond to the United Nations initiative with Chinese traditional culture", "World Earth Day·Chinese and foreign "Micro Exhibition of Famous Writers Writing 'One Body with a Shared Destiny for Mankind'", "Exhibition of Works of 50 Chinese and Foreign Calligraphers and Painters to Commemorate the 50th Anniversary of China's Restoration of its Legal Seat in the United Nations", etc. Let's give him a thumbs up for his hard work!
On the road to inheriting and innovating China’s excellent traditional culture, more aspiring people are needed to carry out this cause from generation to generation, which is beneficial to the great development and unity of the Chinese nation, and is beneficial to the peaceful coexistence, harmony and beauty of the people of the world!
The oracle bone inscriptions dating back more than 3,000 years are an important manifestation of Chinese civilization. It is unique in the world to elevate it to the level of calligraphy art. Oracle bone calligraphy is a category of oracle bone science and an indispensable link in learning and researching oracle bone science. This point has initially formed a consensus in oracle bone academic circles at home and abroad. If you are not familiar with Chinese calligraphy and the art of oracle bone culture calligraphy, it is estimated that studying "oracle bone inscriptions" will always feel like you are missing the mark!
Since oracle bone inscriptions attracted attention in 1899 and became a popular object of international academic research, under specific social, cultural, and historical circumstances, most of the older generation of oracle bone inscriptions are outstanding in oracle bone calligraphy, such as Sun Yirang (1848-1908), Luo Zhenyu (1865-1940), Ding Ren (1874-1949), Guo Moruo (1892-1978), Dong Zuobin (1895-1963), Yu Shengwu (1896-1984), Shang Chengzuo (1902- 1991), Pan Zhulan (1909-2001), Hu Houxuan (1911-1995), etc., they accepted the discipline of the late Qing literati, adhered to the connotation of traditional epigraphy, and while being loyal to the spirit of oracle bone inscriptions, they adopted the interest of seal script form and brushwork. This is evident in early oracle bone calligraphy works. Of course, the creation of oracle bone calligraphy is not about copying dictionaries or copying character models, but requires the sublimation of artistry to innovate the rules of text structure.
In the 1980s and 1990s, the international artistic vision gradually broadened. Influenced by the trend of modern calligraphy art, experimental ink art, lines, colors, and exhibition hall visuals, the face of oracle bone calligraphy has undergone major changes. Many people engaged in The creators of oracle bone calligraphy began to think and explore artistically, seek changes from the old and bring out the new, and have a certain degree of profound awareness.
The first person to have awareness of oracle bone inscriptions in calligraphy was Mr. Sun Yirang. However, it was Mr. Luo Zhenyu who pioneered the direct introduction of oracle bone inscriptions into the form of calligraphy expression. After that, scholars followed the lead one after another and made new breakthroughs from time to time. The first person to distance himself from his predecessors in terms of oracle bone calligraphy was Mr. Hu Houxuan. Later, artists such as Shaman Weng (1916-2011) and Liu Jiang (b. 1926) also produced new works. Prominent ones such as Mr. Yang Luan (1928-2009) used seal carving techniques and freehand brushwork techniques and integrated them into the brush strokes and rich writing scenes, which forced people to have a new artistic aesthetic and understanding of oracle bone calligraphy. .
Another example is Mr. Zhai Wanyi (born in 1955), who has successively held important positions in the "Calligraphy Association". He is a calligrapher with strong comprehensive ability and profound academic background. In the past, he was the first bold innovator and practitioner! As for those who can create new ones today by paying equal attention to the art of oracle bone calligraphy and academic research on oracle bone inscriptions, we can look at the number of submissions, exhibited works, and edited books and periodicals for some large-scale "Calligraphy Exhibitions to Commemorate the 120th Anniversary of the Discovery of Oracle Bone Inscriptions" held in 2019. Considering other considerations, there are still relatively few oracle bone calligraphy talents. This "unpopular" needs to be heated up continuously!
Based on a more comprehensive inspection, there are also many creative designers, arts and crafts, and modern calligraphy creators. , drawing nutrients from the incisive spirit of oracle bone inscriptions and the profound physical structure of the mysterious spirit, using "Chinese characters" as the carrier, abstracting the image and making the most of its nature, the harmony of ink and color has produced another new trend, such as the Olympic Games LOG creative The artist is Mr. Han Meilin, and the artists are Mr. Shi Hu, Xu Bing, Lao Jia and Pu Lieping. Although they have moved away from the clustered system of oracle bone inscriptions, their exploration of the artistic connotation of Chinese characters and calligraphy has certain contemporary significance.
Tradition does not remain unchanged, and innovation does not ignore the connotation of tradition. The two require persistence, advancement, change, and innovation in the interaction and mutual stimulation. This is an extremely contradictory Dialectical problems, wise people realize that they can achieve their meaning without words!
This special exhibition is based on the artistic, innovative and academic principles of oracle bone calligraphy. Not only is the main content written well, it is written with the spirit of oracle bone inscriptions, and it is written with the artistic rules of pen and ink, it also needs to observe The calligraphy skills at the end of the calligraphy are examined based on factors such as the degree of academic research and influence of the writer in recent decades, as well as factors such as the dissemination and promotion of China’s excellent traditional culture and his understanding of the cultural thoughts of the new era.
To put it into perspective, it took more than two months to conduct a comprehensive review of the "artistic resumes" of hundreds of old, middle-aged and young people who are engaged in oracle bone calligraphy and nearly a thousand pieces of oracle bone calligraphy works from what "we know". After comparative analysis, review and reading of "artistic style", some gentlemen were finally determined to participate in the exhibition and selected to celebrate the centenary of the founding of the party! Of course, some submissions were not able to participate due to other trivial matters, which is really a pity! Although the dozen or so people participating in the exhibition cannot summarize the entire world of oracle bone calligraphy today, they can reflect the style and trends of an era.
For example, Mr. Wei Feng (b. 1942), who was born in Huanshang, has made outstanding achievements in oracle bone calligraphy creation, academic writings, promotion and exchanges, etc., and has made great achievements in mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, the United States and other countries and regions. The region has organized many exchange activities and has a great international influence. Master Qi Gong (1912-2005) called his ancient and wild oracle bone calligraphy the "oracle bone legacy".
Mr. Cui Xuelu (born in 1945), who founded the "Youth Calligraphy News" in his early years, is based on the philosophy of Lao and Zhuang, and his "spiritual oracle bone calligraphy" that sees the heart, mind, nature and Tao is the most popular in the calligraphy circle. Rare. Regarding the promotion of calligraphy, Master Liu Haisu (1896-1994) praised him: "He has blessed the calligraphy community with great contributions."
Mr. Zhang Daosen (b. 1953) taught successively at the Academy of Fine Arts of Hangzhou Normal University , School of Fine Arts of Zhengzhou University, China Academy of Art, School of Fine Arts of Anyang University, etc. He was invited to give lectures at Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts, Hainan University, Xiamen University, Jimei University, etc. In the 1990s, he became a well-known professor all over the country. He has invested heavily in oracle bone calligraphy and has 24 published works including "History of Chinese Art", "Art Pedagogy" and "Comparative Development History of Chinese and Foreign Art". In particular, the book "Introduction to Oracle Bone Calligraphy" has opened a new chapter in the history of Oracle Bone Calligraphy.
Another example is Mr. Zhang Dashun (born in 1962). Since the 1980s, he has studied Japan and worked diligently with his sword and pen. He has created a unique artistic style, especially his oracle bone calligraphy, which dominates Japan. , gradually spread internationally. There are also Indonesian Chinese Ruan Yuanchun, Shanghai Chi Xinmin, Shanxi Han Zhiqiang, Jiangsu Chen Aimin, Shenyang Han Tianyong, Henan Fu Weihua, Hunan Xie Zhaogang and other gentlemen. They are all great in the industry and have created many novel oracle bone calligraphy works and published many books. He has published a variety of works and literary essays, is enthusiastic about the research and promotion of oracle bone calligraphy, and holds exhibitions, lectures and other activities. Some of them are also very influential internationally. I will not go into details one by one.
Stay around the book world and explore the art world. Some of the above people I have known and admired for many years, and some whom I have never met and become friends with through their art.
I am listed among them now because of my experience in studying and studying ancient characters such as oracle bone inscriptions and ancient culture, as well as calligraphy, traditional Chinese painting art creation exhibitions, exchange lectures, and art, culture, and social commentary manuscripts that are often found on the Internet. It is also because I wrote and published "Oracle Bone Inscriptions" "Non-divination theory", "Historical View of Kunlun Culture in Ancient China", etc., strive to make a new breakthrough in the comprehensive study of oracle bone inscription information in the new era, and seek the wisdom of others.
During the preparation of the special exhibition, Mr. Hao, who was born in the "Hometown of Xihuang" in 1990, kept communicating with me and asked me to write an introduction. If there are any shortcomings in this article, please correct me. That’s it! The first draft was written in Longcheng on April 26, 2021, and the revised draft was written in Kyoto on May 18, written by Yang Muqing.
