In the second year of Song Shenzong Yuanfeng (1079), Su Shi took office in Huzhou and wrote an inscription for "Sanhuaitang" at Wang Gong's home. During Su Shi's stay in Xuzhou, Wang Gong accompanied him on an outing to recite poems. When Su Shi came to Huzhou to take office, Wang Gong also greeted him and asked him to write an inscription for Sanhuaitang, so he asked Su Shi to write an inscription for Sanhuaitang.
In the fourth year of Xining, Su Shi wrote to talk about the disadvantages of the new law. Wang Anshi was very angry, so he asked Xie Jing to tell Su Shi's fault in front of Zongshen. Su Shi then sought a job in Beijing and was sentenced to general punishment in Hangzhou.
"Faithfulness has been handed down from generation to generation for a long time, and poetry books will last forever" is one of the typical family precepts in the history of China, which comes from Su Shi, a famous writer in the Northern Song Dynasty. This family motto means that people should be honest and upright, read poetry books and keep learning. Only in this way can families and clans prosper from generation to generation and last for a long time. This family motto is also a couplet. The upper and lower couplets point out the ethical behavior that a person should have and the truth of standing in the world from two aspects: morality and knowledge.
