The shepherd boy rode on the back of the cow, and the loud song echoed in the forest. Suddenly I wanted to catch the cicada singing in the tree, so I immediately stopped singing and stood quietly by the tree.

Yuan Mei loved life and lived in Jiangning after his resignation. He advocates expressing his temperament, and writes mostly about the leisure of literati. On the trip, the poet saw a shepherd boy singing on a cow. Suddenly he heard the sound of cicada, so he stopped singing and jumped down from the cow's back to catch cicada. This scene aroused the poet's poetic interest, and he wrote this poem "What he saw".

Through the description of the natural environment and social life, the article directly expresses the feelings of life, which seems to be carefree, but in fact it is entrusted with feelings.

This poem is lively and free, simple in language, natural and vivid in image, regardless of meter and rhyme. Throughout the poem, its picturesque peaceful, quiet and beautiful rural scenery and its lively, free and naive image of a shepherd boy show the poet's "true colors".
