Bran's poems consist of more than 240 songs and dramas written in 1 1 and12nd century, some of which are accompanied by melodies, most of which are love songs, toast song and religious operas.
Lyrics were written on 1230 at the Secau Abbey in Mark, Stail or the Neustft Abbey in Brixen.
1803, John Christopher von Aredin discovered Bran's poems in Benedictbourne Abbey. During the separation of education and religion, this manuscript-Bran's copy-was transferred to Munich and kept in today's Bavarian National Library (signature: clm 4660/4660a).
Most of the lyrics were written in medieval Latin, edited by Johann Andreas Schmeller, and published in 1847, The Poetry of Bran —— A Benedictine Song.
On the one hand, these songs contain Bran's transcripts and melody records. However, the record of this melody is only a rough form, just a rough retelling of the melody; On the other hand, by comparing with other manuscripts, the melody of the Middle Ages was reconstructed.
Carl orff discovered Bran's poems in 1935 and composed 24 of them in 1935- 1936. This gave birth to a brand-new work, especially during the birth of Orff's works, and no one in the world has adapted this original medieval melody.
1On June 8th, 937, Orff's works premiered at the Frankfurt Opera House.
Orff divided his work into three paragraphs:
The awakening of spring, love
In taberner (a lively carnival)
The approach of two young people, Venus.
According to the plan, this work is sung by the choir to pay tribute to Fortuna, who is in charge of human destiny.
After the arrangement of Catulli Carmena and Triongfo di Aphrodite, carl orff called them Triongfo together with Bran's Poems. But the performance of the whole three-act play is still an exception.
