Introduction to French symbolism poetry

As an independent school of poetry, French symbolism poetry has its basic and unique artistic personality. Different from realistic poetry, symbolic poetry does not objectively describe social reality, nor does it directly express the soul like romantic poetry. It advocates using vivid and concrete images to hint at the poet's subtle inner world. It is a combination of human emotions and natural images, expressing personal ordinary and subtle life experiences and complex and changeable mentality. First of all, symbolism poetry pursues poetic obscurity. The heart of symbolism poetry mainly expresses the poet's own feelings, will and pursuit. From the beginning, it opposed the rigid description of abstract concepts, emphasized that poetry should have a perceptible artistic image, and opposed directly exposing poetry and covering it up, making it appear illusory and confusing.
