D. Women are worse than men
I do know that giving birth to a boy is a bad thing, but not as good as giving birth to a girl. If you give birth to a girl, you can marry a neighbor, but if you give birth to a boy, you will die on the battlefield and be buried in the grass.
"If you give birth to a girl, you still have to marry your neighbor, but if you give birth to a boy, you have to live with your neighbor."
These two sentences describe the changes in social psychology. In feudal society, people valued boys over girls, and were happy to have a boy and sad to have a girl; but now it is different. Instead, it is considered "evil" to have a boy and "good" to have a girl. This change was caused by the heavy burden of military service and the fact that soldiers died in large numbers, reflecting the deep hurt in people's hearts. The subject and object of these two sentences are clear: the first sentence is a word of self-comfort and is called "guest"; the second sentence is a word of lament and is called "main". Using self-comfort to accentuate the lamentation further reveals the depth of the lamentation. Such psychological changes are also a powerful indictment of the rulers' militaristic policies.
