Austrian composer hugo wolf. 1860 was born in Graz, Vandis on March 3, 1980. Studying at Vienna Conservatory of Music, 1875- 1877. Because of disagreement with the dean, he was forced to drop out of school and made a living by teaching and writing music reviews for Vienna Salon. 1897 lost his mind, 1903 died in an insane asylum.
Wolf began to write songs in 1876, and since then his writing career has been dominated by writing. Work is very irregular, brilliant for a while, and then often do nothing. The crazy worship of Wagner expressed his preference for him in the comments. Wagner's influence is also reflected in his song accompaniment, which often has the nature of independent instrumental music, but the voice seems to be added later. This is not to regard songs as superfluous, but his unique talent of loving authentic recitation and using music to reflect the artistic conception of lyrics. Therefore, the written vocal lines, just like Wagner's, have become a veritable narrative tune, which is sung in strict time on the basis of an accompaniment that ensures the sustained and reasonable development of musical ideas.
Wolff is the most creative German art song writer after Schubert and Schumann, but his aesthetic feeling is different from the former and has its unique charm. Wolff began to write songs from about 1875, and finally reached perfection after thirteen years. From 1888 to 189 1, he composed more than 200 songs based on the poems written by merrick, eichendorff, Goethe, Cherbell, Heyzer and Keller. From 1895 to 1897, only more than 30 songs have joined the original huge lineup. His masterpiece of harmony and practice began at 1888, when he set music to merrick's poems.
The main song works are: Songs after Death (youth works, published in1939); Twelve songs of youth (1877-1878); Songs by different authors (1877-1897); Merrick's song (1888); Song of eichendorff (1888); Goethe's song (1889); Collection of Spanish songs (1890); Collection of Italian songs (two volumes 189 1,1896); Keller's poems and songs (189 1) and Michelangelo's poems and songs (1898).
