Before the rebellion, Huang Chao went to Chang 'an to take the imperial examination, but failed. This poem was written after he failed in the imperial examination.
The failure of the imperial examination, the darkness of the whole society and the corruption of official management made him more and more dissatisfied with the Li and Tang dynasties, and expressed his ambition by chanting chrysanthemums.
In his poems, Huang Chao used the technique of metaphor to shape chrysanthemum into a strong image with tough personality, great momentum and full of fighting spirit. When Huang Chao rebelled, he called himself "General Tian Chong".
The imagination of "Golden Flower in the City" is bold and novel, because it is widely circulated as the title of a film.
