What's the legend about Liugu Temple?

Wang Yao Temple in Hefei, formerly known as Liugu Temple, is the largest temple in China to commemorate Taoist Wang Yao Tie Guai Li. Wang Yao Temple in Hefei was built in Yuan Dynasty, and the original building scale was expanded when it was renovated in Ming Dynasty.

Tie Guai Li is a deity enshrined in Wang Yao Temple and revered by Taoism. He has his own unique views on pharmacology and often saves lives, so he has won the admiration of the people.

Legend has it that in the Han Dynasty, there were two brothers in the south of Hefei. My brother Li Fu has a good medical skill, and my brother Li Xuan has a poor medical skill, so he can only assist my brother. One year, their mother was seriously ill, and even his brother was helpless. The two brothers went everywhere for medical treatment and help.

One day, a Taoist priest came home and told them that the Queen Mother of the West had a prescription for this disease and left a poem:

Find a slope and turn to the snake valley, and sleep on the shore of Tianshui.

Mailing climbed the mountain and worshipped Xiantao. After many hardships, the drug king returned.

As soon as Li Xuan heard that the Queen Mother of the West could save her mother's illness, she said goodbye to everyone on a donkey and went to the Western Heaven to get medicine. He carried his mother across the mountains to the Black Forest.

That night, the moon was big and round, reflecting the earth so brightly. Mother is so thirsty that she wants to drink water. So Li Xuan stood up to look for water, but she saw two small snakes playing by the pond, but the pond looked dark. How can she drink it?

At this time, the hungry mother pushed Li Xuan away, picked up the water and drank it, and kept saying, "It's delicious, I feel much more comfortable."

The next morning, they continued their journey to the west. On the way, they came across a thatched cottage full of rare treasures. They were dumbfounded. At this moment, a fat man came out, hoping that they could stay, but Li Xuan was eager to save his mother and politely refused.

The fat man was moved by Li Xuan's determination to save his mother, so he took out a red jujube for him to eat. Unexpectedly, after eating, Li Xuan didn't feel tired at all behind his mother's back.

In this way, they walked for many years. On this day, they came to the foot of a big mountain and saw a large peach garden halfway up the mountain. When they went in, peach trees were towering, and there were many birds and sika deer.

Mother said she wanted peaches, so Li Xuan went to pick them. Accidentally, she slipped down from the tree and broke her foot. But it's a long way. What shall we do? Helpless Li Xuan conveniently folded a branch as a crutch to help her mother move on.

At this time, a group of fairies came face to face and scolded them for stealing their peaches. Mother and son are embarrassed and don't know what to do.

Just then, a kind old man dressed in colorful clothes drank the fairy and began to ask Li Xuan how they got here. After listening to Li Xuan, the old man smiled and said that she was the Queen Mother and could cure his mother's illness.

The queen mother asked him if he had any other requirements. Li Xuan stammered that he hoped to get a prescription from the Queen Mother in order to help people all over the world. So,

The Queen Mother of the West anointed him immortal, made him the leader of Donghua, and gave him an iron staff.

When I got home and looked at my red-faced and healthy mother, my brother quickly asked if he had used any prescription. Li Xuan told his brother in detail.

Brother stamped his foot and said, "Brother, you are really good. At the beginning, I said that you could cure your mother's illness with three prescriptions: Snake Valley, Tianhulu and Fairy Flat Peach. But these three drugs are hard to satisfy, and I am helpless. I didn't expect you to actually find them. Is your filial piety helped you ... "

Later, the two brothers left many prescriptions for the people to save lives.

In order to thank the lame drug king for all he has done, the people of Hefei built the drug king temple for him.

Wang Yao Temple faces south, and the main buildings such as the gate, the front hall and the back hall are arranged in sequence along the central axis. There is a tunnel between every two temples.
