The impact of visiting Fuling 816 Nuclear Base on college students

To deepen college students’ understanding of the history of Japan and China and promote the spirit of patriotism.

The 816 underground nuclear project is located in Baitao, Fuling, Chongqing. In 1966, it was built with the personal approval of Premier Zhou Enlai. The project covers an area of ??104,000 square meters. More than 60,000 construction troops were invested, and it took 8 years to dig holes and 9 years to install equipment. It went through three stages of emergency construction, delayed construction, and suspended construction, with a total investment of 74.6 billion yuan. Among the more than 20 kilometers of cave projects that have been completed, the main cave chamber is 79.6 meters high and the vault span is 31.2 meters high, completely hidden inside the mountain. There are a total of 18 large caverns in the cave, and more than 130 roads, guide tunnels, branch tunnels, tunnels and shafts. The functional distribution of floors in the cave is obvious, like a maze, with unique structural beauty. The amount of earth and stone excavated during the construction of the cave body is 1.51 million cubic meters. If these gravels were built into a one-meter-square stone wall, it would be 1,500 kilometers long. There are a total of 19 openings of different sizes around the cave. According to different plans, there are all entrances and exits for people, car passages, ventilation tunnels, drainage ditches, warehouses, etc. The design and construction of the 816 underground nuclear project not only represented the highest level of architectural design and engineering construction at that time, but also won the National Science and Technology Conference Award for Collective Award.
