Qu Yuan was the first great patriotic poet in China. He initiated a new era of poetry from collective singing to individual independent writing, and was the founder of China's positive romantic poetry tradition.
Chu Ci, with Qu Yuan's works as the main body, is the source of China's romantic literature, which is as coquettish as The Book of Songs and has a far-reaching influence on later poetry.
