Du Mu's seven-character quatrains lamented the fleeting prosperity of the dynasties in just 28 words, exposed the rulers' extravagance in the country, and expressed their political feelings and insights. Among them, Du Mu's quatrains contain deep dissatisfaction and satire with reality, showing brilliant talents. So Du Mu's quatrains are called twenty-eight epics.
Among the poets in the late Tang Dynasty, Du Mu was the first poet who used "four-character poems" extensively. He used a distinctive historical writing style to express the sadness of the last days by recalling the glory of the past, or to look for the mistakes of predecessors to alert the present, so that he could understand the philosophy of life from the changes of the times, and his implicit poetry contained praise and criticism. He gave full play to the wonderful use of quatrains and created many excellent works that enjoyed the reputation of "the 28 th Historical Theory", such as:
1, the sky is lonely and gloomy through the ages. Want to serve the motherland and make contributions, No.5 is in the bleak autumn wind. (Leyou Tomb)
2, the broken sand and iron are not sold, and the self-grinding will wash the former dynasty. If the east wind is not convenient for Zhou Yu, I'm afraid the outcome will be Cao Cao's victory and Er Qiao's detention in Tongquetai. (Chibi)
3, smoke cage cold water moon cage sand, night parking near Qinhuai restaurant. Strong women in business don't know how to hate their country, but they still sing backyard flowers across the river. ("Bo Qinhuai")
