The author Shu Ting, formerly known as Gong Peiyu, was born in 1952 in Quanzhou, Fujian. She graduated from junior high school in 1967, went to the countryside to work in a queue in 1969, and returned to the city to work as a temporary worker in 1972. She worked as a cement worker, a car blocker, and a furnace worker.

I started writing poetry in my spare time when I joined the queue, and gradually formed my own style.
